I'm looking at putting a Timney Trigger on my Weatherby Vanguard, I have the factory trigger set at 3 lbs and the gunsmith I use said a Timney Trigger would be an upgrade from the factory trigger.

Anyone use em?

Yes, I've used the Timney in rifle. It was good. Wasn't sure that I truly liked the wide trigger, but I got used to it. Clean break.

However, I'm not sure it's necessary for the Wby Vanguard. Isn't the factory trigger in that rifle pretty good?

I had to change the trigger in my S1 Vanguard, It felt rough and didn't brake clean. Bought a Timney from Midway and have never looked back, best money spent. Groups went from 1.5" to under an inch at 100yds. I recommend them as an up grade from the factory trigger. It will cost about the same as having a gun smith do a tune up on the factory trigger.

I have 3 Timneys and 2 Rifle Basix triggers for the Vanguards. Of the two I generally prefer the Timney if for no other reason than the 3 position safety. In use, they feel about the same.

I have tried doing the trigger mods of polishing and adjusting on several Vanguard triggers. Generally I have a 50% success rate on being able to get the pull down to 2 pounds, remove all of the creep and have the safety still work. Frankly I now tend to wait to find a sale on a Timney and buy that instead.

It's not the best trigger, doesn't break as clean as I'd like and there's some creep in the trigger too.

I have the Timney trigger in all of my rifles all set a 3lbs love those triggers. If Jewell made a lefty model I might give one of them a try. But I was told the Jewell is 2 to 3 times more money :(.

Blessings,
Dan

My friend's two McWhorters have Jewell triggers.

Let's just say that for a custom rifle they are worth every extra penny that they cost. Wow.
They beat my Timneys and Rifle Basix any day.

For an everyday rifle I don't think I would spend the extra money.

Got my FIRST one coming to me - i have always redone the stock rem triggers I am going to try one ! :) RJ

I'm thinking of a Rifle Basix for my Rem 700, they seem like they are a decent trigger especially for a hunting rig.

I just got my new Timney from the mailbox today its a model #510 ajusts down to 1.5 lbs - i will get it installed on a rifle and test it out soon ! :)

Hey gerry read up on the NEW Timney Calvin Elite !

Cheers :) RJ

RJ, you did not purchase the Calvin Elite is there a reason why?
The one thing I would be a little concerned about on the Elite is only 2.5lbs pull. I like my triggers at 3lbs as I find lighter than that a little to touchy.
Blessings,
Dan

I bought a Timney here from Mystic Precision here in BC for $150.00 i have ordered a Calvin Elite for my Rem M7 SAUM set at 1.5 lbs - i like light triggers !

Cheers :) RJ

I read the write up and a couple of reviews and it sound like Timney started to produce the Calvin Elite to compete with the Jewel. Now that is just my opinion  but it sound like it is top shelf.

Blessings,
Dan

150 bucks? good gosh. I didn't pay near that for mine. But don't over look a Shillen trigger. Glass rod break, no creep, no grit.

Canadian prices tend to run higher, in some instances much higher, than US prices.
