Timney Trigger

Mine showed up over the weekend, I'm going to try and drop it off to the gunsmith in the next week or so to have it installed.

It's 1 screw to install the trigger. It takes longer to type this sentence than to install a Timney in a Vanguard.

I've looked at both the Timney and Rifle Basix. I'd take either one. But in the end I'd rather shoot a trigger that I've worked on.
I'm partial to the old Remington Walker, regardless of reputation.
I've had a lot of experience working on triggers. I have the tools to improve most triggers. I've even built a couple of trigger assemblies when I was a Tool Maker.
The trigger on my 700 has no creep, just a trace of overtravel, 3 lb. pull for a hunting rifle and breaks like a glass rod.
So in this weight range, what would a aftermarket trigger give me that I don't already have?

Is Timney the only aftermarket trigger that fits the Vanguard's and Mark V's anybody try another manufacturer? I have some Timney's but just curious what other Weatherby owners were using?

I have both Timney and Rifle Basix on Vanguards, and one Mark V with a Timney. The RB has a nominally better feel on the Vanguard - not that the Timney is bad at all - but I'll generally take the Timney for its 3 position safety.

I don't think there is much of an option for the Mark V.

I'm in DrMike's camp, except that I am 0/1 in improving the Vanguard trigger. I went with a Timney after many hours of frustration and wished I had just bittin the bullet from the outset.

The Mark V factory trigger is really an excellent trigger. The factory spring usually prevents adjusting below 3 lbs or so. With an after market spring or by clipping a coil, coil and a half off the factory one you can get almost unlimited adjustment for a crisp, creep free trigger.

Agreed. The only Mark V I own with a Timney came that way. Otherwise I just tweak the factory trigger and use that. Much cheaper. :mrgreen:
