To shoot, or not to shoot

I am patiently awating the arival of a NCR in 280 AI.
My problem is, the anticipation was killing me and I bought a Rem 700 in 280.
The Remington preformed very well with factory ammo and I am sure it will shoot 1/2" groups @ 100 with AB's and the right powder-primer combo.
Now I don't know if I should shoot the NCR when I get it.
I bought the NCR for the combination of investment and to elk hunt with. I have always taken good care of my firearms and am sure the NCR will retain good value in the years to come even if I shoot it.
But...........
With the Remington shooting so well do I take any chances outside of the range with the NCR.
I don't know that I will be able to resist the urge to shoot the NCR. I don't plan on selling it so what is the point in not shooting it.
But...........
From a collectors standpoint it would be worth more if it was never shot and in original packaging. :? :? :?

That is a tough question. I do not think that anyone can decide that for you. You will have to make your own decision. I personally would shoot it. I hate the idea of having a firearm that you can't shoot.

We have a term amongst hot-rodders for cars people don't drive - Trailer Queen. You owe it to that rifle to let it stretch it's legs. If it were some kind of one-off, I'd understand. I'd still shoot it, as a rifle is just a stick with some metal furniture otherwise, but I'd understand your desire not to. But this is a real gun, built to shoot, and you said yourself you aren't going to sell it, so why not let it build some character? I like the dings on my rifles. Each one reminds me of a story about me, my brother, or my dad. Soon I will be able to add my son to the list.

hunt with it, put some cariture into it. a little snow slide nick, wet leave slip will lock it's value into your memory

I have to agree with the others, enjoy your new rifle.
The 280 Rem is a fine cartridge but the 280AI is one fantastic round!
Load up your 280AI with the 160 gr AB and don't look back.

Hmm- I like the term trailer queen. My uncle has a commerative model 94 from the centenial celebration in my home town. Aside from the gold and silver plating, gloss finish, and extensive engraving- its just a model 94. That one is in a glass case and hasnt been shot. Its so shinny you could signal airplanes with it, but shoot it... naw....its a trailer queen. Buy a used 94 and put some scratches and memories on it.
Your Nosler was built to shoot. and shoot scarrily well. Worst case scenario you take that thing on an elk hunt and your horse falls on it, (gasp) I bet you could still send it back to nosler for restocking, barrel, bluing, whatever. Nosler will probably give you documentation stating that they did the resoration. Colt does that with their pistols. I know a fella who collects colt pistols. Has a safe full, they get handled only with gloves on, never shot and are fully restored by colt. Thing is he shoots his SIGs for fun. There are wonderful museums in this country where a guy can look at those same guns (thats all my friend does with his).
Dont get me wrong I am way protective of my FN Mauser (the only rifle I own) but it has taken my antelope on the wall and is great fun to shoot "cloverleafs" with at the range.

I am looking at getting a savage as a savage chambered in the same calibre just as a "truck gun". Maybe what we are really worried about here is making "better" memories with the beater than with that nice rifle. So what? Shoot the remington if you know your gonna knock it around, but shoot the Nosler too.

Make good memories with either one they are wort more than the rifle anyway. CL

I'm going to have to shoot it. I don't think I will be able to just look at it.
Maybe I won't shoot it every weekend.
I will probably wear the thing out just looking at it and oiling it.

I think you will be happy that you have decided to shoot her.
When do you ecpect to get your rifle?

Since you are reluctant to shoot it please ship it to me. I promise 1 will put it thru its paces and let you know the results.

It sounds like delivery is a couple of months away. Just in time for nice weather.

I have been shooting the @#$% out of it and can't quit. I am addicted to guns and reloading as it is but, this rifle has consumed me.
I have a 140gr AB load, a 154gr IB load, 160gr AB and now I am working on a 120gr BT and maybe a 100gr hornady sp load..... (Nosler needs to make a 7mm 100grBT for varmints.)
All of the above mentioned loads shoot .375 easily and the largest group durring load development has been 1.25.

Thanks again Nosler.

Just wanted to say thanks again to Nosler.
I was out bear hunting yesterday when I realized that I accidentally loosened the front quick release on the scope mount. My confidence went into the toilet as I tightened it back up. On the way home I decided to take a shot at a water jug. I put the jug on a stump 413 yards away and took one shot. I watched the jug explode in the scope.
The custom retical is nice and I am impressed with the repeatabillity of the quick release mounts.
