I just wanted to break the barrel in and get a feel for how she might shoot. I took three shots to sight her in. Cleaning after each one. Then I started shooting 3shot groups, cleaning after each group. After the fifth group I started cleaning every third group. Bartlein 5R barrel cleans very easily. The LGS didn't have any 6.5 nylon brushes so I used a .270; still very easy to brush. I use RG17 first then I patch CR10 for the copper fouling.
I used a random mid level load that I verified via Quickload and the Nosler Manual. 41gr RL17 in new sized Hornady cases with WLR primers. Topped off with 140gr BTs loaded to an OAL of 2.805. I haven't even measured to the lands yet. Just ran a dummy in at 2.805 to verify that I wouldn't jam them. The magazine will load out to 2.850.
The rifle ran beautifully. Super smooth on the ejection and feeding from the mag was flawless. Now for the really good part. I shot 14 groups with average size of .734"! The smallest being .416" and the largest 1.116"(No fliers called). My last two groups were the largest. I think I was getting tired and in a hurry(had dinner guests coming over and wanted to get the BBQ warmed up). I had already cleaned the barrel 10 times this afternoon. I think with load development this rifle will be a legit 1/2MOA rifle.
Long Rifles Inc. out of Sturgis, S.D. did all the metal work and Cerakote. They did a fantastic job and their customer service is first rate! I gathered the parts and they did their magic all in a six week turn around. I bedded it last weekend into the Manners T5. To say that I'm ecstatic is an understatement!
