As I write this I’m camped at the Marriott hotel in Grande Prairie Alberta. Tomorrow the outfitter is picking me up to check site in and take me to his cabin an hour away. I’m 3 flights and 1200 miles from home and Monday I start hunting whitetails for the first time! I’m a west coast hunter so I’ve chased elk, mulies, blacktails, pigs and bears most of my life so I’ve come to the land of big whitetails to try my luck.🍀
I’ve brought my new Winchester 70 fast twist 270wsm shooting the Nosler 165gr LRAB. 71gr of V568 at 2.955” and she’s cruising at 3040fps. I could have pushed it faster but this load has single digit ES and SDs. Last time at the range it was punching the black diamond out of a 3/4” dot and keeping 3 shots all in the orange. Verified impacts to 600yds and only had to adjust BC from .610 to .603.
Hopefully I’ll be back here soon to report a successful hunt. Hope you all are having good seasons!

Big whitetails there, good luck! Hope you have lots of warm clothes lol. Bonus points for your fast twist 270 WSM, when a gun likes the 165 gr ABLR it's one of the best 277 cal bullets out there. How long is your barrel? Seems like good speed already.

Hi Gerry,
It’s running a 24” barrel but it’s got a long throat so I can seat those long bullets to magazine length and still have the long jump those ABLRs like. It’s a McGowan barrel and I’m really happy with it so far.

Hey good luck mister! I have killed one Whitetail right here in Oregon and continue to see more and more of them each year. Those in Alberta are way bigger than any Whitetail we have in the PNW! Enjoy your hunt! Take lots of pictures!

Good luck buddy! Cool rifle too! Hope you find a hammer.

Well hell of a deal. I leave La Grande on Wednessday arriving Grand Prarie on Thursday for my moose hunt. I get picked up on Friday. Almost close enough for coffee. Good luck on your hunt. I’ve been seeing some pics of monster white tails up there.

Well, Don, let me know if you have some time following your moose hunt and I'll come over and buy you a coffee.:)

Shot the above buck through my spotting scope this morning. He got roughed up by another buck. I want to put the other buck in my rifle scope. There are some big 10 pointers around here.
