I always wipe my cases of any residue prior to loading.

The walnut shell media is good for badly tarnished cases. Cases tumbled in this media are left a dark colour which is quite attractive. Corn cob media tends to leave the brass brighter and lighter, especially when it has the abrasive additive provided by RCBS and a few other manufacturers. However, corn cob media is not as abrasive and hence will not polish seriously tarnished cases. Each media has its use. Generally, I use corn cob media on all cases, reserving walnut shell media for exceptionally dirty brass.

+1 on the corncob media. It is cheap and will remove the powder residue and dirt from the cases. I add IOSSO case polish to the corncob media to get a nice bright finish on the brass. Even old tarnished brass has a nice shine if you give it an hour or so of cleaning. There isn't too much wiping that needs to be done with this media.

My question is why wipe each case? Just spread out an old towel on the floor/table and dump the cases(no media) onto the towel then fold it over the brass and rub it back and forth a few times. All the brass will be wiped clean and quickly. I do the same with my brass after sizing to remove the sizing lube. It is fast and easy. No more problem.
