Nobody has mentioned anything about the turkey bird in quite a while. I am an early riser, and they have been back in our area for over two months now. (We are at mid slope, they go lower in the winter and higher in the summer). This morning when I woke I could hear them from inside the house. They are going crazy, some probably inside a 100 yards at the edge of the scrub oaks. Almost annoying ! I think the season starts here pretty soon.

I have only seen two Jakes and one hen two different times since I have lived in Whatcom County. Both incidents were while driving early in the morning off the road and across the road. I do not think that we have huntable numbers here.

I have 30 birds in the back yard every morning. There are 12 shooter toms strutting and gobbling.
It gets the blood flowing.....
I can't wait for next month to get here.

JD,
Those look like crop damage Turkeys to me.................
I may have some Homemade tags I could send you!

Don

The neighbors are complaining about all the turkeys, their scratching and the digested food.
Its called "country living"!
Some people are never happy.....you can send the tags to them.

I looked up the season here, it starts in the middle of the month. We can get two toms in my area here but i think I will be over to the coast by then, catching one of the last clamming seasons. We have missed several this spring, due to season timing, and weather. There is nothing appealing about digging for them after dark in a 20 mile an hour wind, with large rain drops coming sidewise. The next couple are morning digs, which are my favorites.

We hunted the Youth Season today. Had Brandon right on the edge. Big Bird wouldn't break the cover to offer him a shot. Had birds going all over around us. Around 0800 they hushed up, but the regular season starts next Saturday so we will be back at it.

Bill, go get a shotgun and box call. I am telling you, you have no idea how much fun it is to call one of them big Tom's into your lap.

Bill,

I second Scotty's suggestion. Turkey hunting is an addictive sport!
It is a lot like elk hunting when they are bugling.

I wish we had turkeys here it looks like it would be an absolute blast to hunt them. Hope all of you do well this spring, and take lots of pictures for us to see :)

The most fun for me when turkey hunting is to be able to camo up and hide from them. If you can hide from a turkey you can hide from about anything. Something might smell you, but visually turkeys are about the toughest.

Very slow in East TN, a couple gobbles at daylight and then silence. A big jake tried to digest a load of Hevi13 3-2-6 yesterday but he ended up not being able to handle it, must have been poisonous......

My daughter is really looking forward to turkey hunting next month and I can hardly wait to call in a big tom for her.
Last year she shot a dandy.

Go get 'em, Danielle! Heath, too bad about that poor gobbler not digesting the Hevi-shot; his misfortune. I trust you gave him a decent send off.

Mike, he followed me home but his legs and wings fell off right into the crock pot which turned into BBQ sandwiches and then the breast meat found its way to the grill. I bet he won't do that again!

JD, great pictures!
