Well with the current state of things I decided to get another semi auto rifle and I stumbled across this little carbine for $200 so I decided to snatch it up. I would have preferred to purchase another AR but with the panic of another ban on "assault rifles" I can't even purchase a lower for what I'm willing to pay. Anyway I haven't even seen the carbine yet as I had to have my wife do all the arrangements in CO since I'm in TX for work, but it was just the carbine and one 15 round magazine for my money.

Looking around online I was able to pick up four more 15 round magazines, GI style sling, scope base and rings for another $97. Then a little more searching and jumping through hoops I was able to procure 500 rounds of 110 FMJ S&B ammunition for less than $220. So I'm into this carbine for a little over $500, and I get to wave my middle finger at the current administration and their push to ban guns and ammo.

I'm not even really into semi automatics rifles, it just isn't my thing but I'll be damned if I'm not going to do my part to try and stop or vote out politicians who vote for a new AWB. I even got my wife and daughter lifetime memberships in the NRA, I hated seeing that charge hit my debit card. Everything that is going on makes me wish I hadn't sold my DPMS M4 clone four years ago, at least I still have my Colt M4 clone, and about thirty 20 and 30 round magazines.

Congrats on your new procurement.

I am just going to get a crapload of 10/22's.
They cost and weigh less and the 22 LR will kill a zombie if fired into the brain!

That sounds like a great buy. Congratulations. Every time the politicians begin to rant about making the world safe through getting rid of guns, they boost sales. They'll never learn, but they never quit. Like the Bourbons, they never learn and they never forget.

I've always thought there's something appealing about the M1 Carbine...functionally the .30 Carbine seems like what the .22 Magnum wishes it could have been. Being reloadable is gravy.

Sounds like you got a pretty good deal!

A great deal! I have put several rounds thru one after Jack Rabbits in the Oregon desert. It's long been traded away. They are fun, great catch!!!!

Here is the picture I saw online that made me contact the previous owner, it is a pretty crappy pic but I thought I'd give the rifle a chance.

Congratulations on the M1 Carbine.
That will be a fun shooter.

I would to, and especially for $200! Hope it functions and shoots flawlessly.

At 200 I would get 5!

The Universals were never GI issued and had a slightly modified action, utilizing dual recoil springs if memory of mine is serving me correctly. Values on the Universals were never up to what they were on the GI issued M1s but even at that, you scored one heck of deal there! I bought my Universal M1 back in 1993 when they were still fairly cheap for $150. After one assault weapons ban, at least two mass gun buying panics and nearly 20 years worth of inflation, you did exceptionally well! They are fun guns and I sometimes regret trading mine off (got about $300 in trade for mine towards a shotgun I had to have a year or two ago).

Just a word of caution, though. Locate and buy an extractor. You'll need one specified for a Universal as they aren't interchangeable from my understanding. The extractors had a reputation for breaking... and after about 1k rounds through mine, it finally did break. I think I bought an extractor off eBay or gunbroker and replaced it myself easy enough, but it would have been nice to have already had it on hand.
