What kind of difference in velocity should I expect between a 100 grain etip and the 100 grain ballistic tip
or 110 AccuBond? I want to maximize flat shooting with this gun (25-06) but a tough bullet would be a bonus.

I get 3350 plus speeds using RL26 and 100 grain ETips.

That's fast Scotty. I was getting 3340 fps with 100 gr Barnes TSX bullets & H4350. I'm impressed the E-Tip got up to 3350 fps!

They are pretty easy to shoot in my 25-06. RL26 worked excellent. I'm actually surprised H4350 was so fast Guy. I would have never thought it would get those speeds. Noted.... will attack again later.

I get 3350 with Sierra Prohunter 1620 100gn and very similar with Nosler 100gn BT's using IMR4350
I get 3120 with IMR4831 & the 110gn AB
53gns each powder and Fed 210M primers.

.25-06, 22" barrel.
Never have tried ETips

I have a 24" barrel T/C Venture 25-06 that I aquired last year. I worked up some loads using 59.5 grains of Retumbo, Federal 215 Mag primer, 110 gr AB and Hornady brass.
I am getting 3111 fps shooting over a magnetospeed and 3/4 inch groups. Last week I messed around a few rounds with 58.5 grains of Norma MRP, Federal 210M primer with the same brass and bullet above. I didn't shoot group because it was raining to hard to get a target up but i did shoot them over the magnetospeed with got me a 3 shot average of 3247 fps without any signs of pressure. I did shoot a few with 59.0 grains of Norma MRP, had easy bolt lift but the primer was different. It had a little metal flaring from the primer strike area. Velocity on those were 3277 fps, i will stay away from those. I do have some loaded with Reloader 26 that i will try as soon as I can get to the range. I will post the results afterwards.

I get 3340 fps with 100g Ballistic Tip using MagPro and 3350+ fps with ETips and RL 26. From a 24" barrel. The 100g Ballistic Tips were more accurate with IMR 4350 at about 3250 fps. I'm still working on the ETips.

About 52-53 grains of H4350 with a 100 gr bullet is a well-known combo for .25-06 shooters. Easily capable of 3300 fps, with good accuracy. Problem is, H4350 has become hard to find! Phooey.

But I switched up to heavier 115's years ago, and found excellent results with slower burning powders, like RL-22 and Retumbo.

I have a 25-06 and this has me excited to get to loading for it.

Remington 120 gr factory ammo shot pretty well from my rifles (I've had three .25-06 rifles, the current one for 12+ years). But handloading can really bring out the accuracy and velocity from this wonderful quarter-bore! I've taken quite a few mule deer and a couple of pronghorn with that rifle, out to 400 yards, and coyotes beyond that! Get a good set of dies and get to loading some great ammo for your rifle!

Man, I like that 100 grain ETip... might have to finish up my load for it, just in case I get to hunt deer this fall with it. It's a very nice shooting rifle. I've got plenty of 26 but I keep my eyes open for H4350.

I agree, Scotty, the ETips at 3350+ fps are a very flat shooter. Should be a great deer bullet.

You guys seem to like H4350 over IMR4350 with 100gn bullets, but quite a few years ago I found with the same charge of 53 gns of each powder, the IMR gave better MV by around 70-90 fps.

Maybe it's just that way with my 22" barrel & longer barrels do better with H4350?

ET - I don't think I've ever tried IMR 4350 in the .25-06 cartridge. Had a quantity of H4350 on hand when I got the rifle, and kept using that during the time I used 100 gr bullets. When I bumped up to 115's in 2008, I switched to Retumbo, and have used little else since.

Regards, Guy

It's a funny thing Guy, when I moved to the heavier 110gn AB bullet, neither 4350 worked satisfactorily & after trying a couple of accessible options I found IMR4831 worked.
But, I have never tried Retumbo. Maybe I should give it a go, just to see.
Cheers.
