Well, everyone has a rifle that just shoots well no matter what, that rifle for me is my M70 Laminate 270WSM.. It really seems to shoot everything well, and today I wanted to get it out and look at the zero's in case I get a change to get it out to the 600 yard range this weekend. I have two loads that I use in the rifle right now, both loads are just about identical with WW cases, 65.5gr RL22, CCI250's for the 150 PT's and 66gr of RL22 for the 150 BT. They both clock about 3125 out of the rifle and shoot very close to the same POI.. At least close enough for hunting out to 300...

The rifle really shoots these loads pretty well and if they aren't clustered together, it is usually me and nothing to do with the rifle. It is really a stock M70 with the trigger tuned up. It has the Leupold 3.5x10 on and man, it has done well by me.. He were some of my groups I shot with the rifle today..

First group of the day with a fouler (decided to use the fouler shot in this one)

Yanking the trigger!

Anyhow it is ready to go! Looking forward to getting it stretched out a little. I was hoping to get the 7WSM out, but I am a little disapointed with it right now..

I did shoot a quick 3 shot group from my little Ruger Hawkeye 308.. I am still trying to use up the 125 Sierra's I have loaded. It shoots okay. Not a barnburner, but with the little 2x7 it does okay.

It is always gratifying to have one reliable rifle in the arsenal. You've not done too badly, however. The 270 WSM is working well for you, however, as is mine.

Yeah, the 270WSM makes me question why I have alot of the others!

Scotty,

Like I told my wife, "guns are like golf, you can't play the game with just one club".

Man! That 270 WSM will even put a fouler in to a nice group. Good stuff.

I lucked out with that one.. My old man picked it up for me on my return from Iraq in 2003.. It has accounted for a bunch of deer, my largest bull elk, some good muleys and a ton of good groups.. Not much to not like about the WSM, easy to shoot, accurate and plenty flat for most shooting..

It is nice to have one that always makes you smile though!

You have convinced me that someday I will have to go for the 270 WSM. I am Winchester guy at heart. My first shotgun and rifle were both Win and I am a huge fan of the .277. I certainly couldn't justify it now with work being slow, a rifle of a different flavor in my near future and a M70 in .270win that shoots fine. But, someday.

Widgeon, the WSMs are fine cartridges and the new Winchesters do them justice.

If you have a good shooting 270 M70 there ain't much you'll gain. I love my WSMs and the 270 was what brought me around. Although a 7WSM would be a nice addition!

It's so great that the new Winchesters are being made the way they should be. More like the old way. Certainly at the top of my list of future rifles.

Sure, but A 270 WSM has that short and fat appeal.

As for a 7mm WSM, I have some irrational aversion to metric based calibers.
Maybe if they called it a 284 WSM

The new Winchesters are nice and since you don't like the metric based cartridges, the 264WSM or 264WM would be pretty fun too!

The 7mm WSM almost stole the 270's spot, but my current bullet problem has the 270 back on top!

That's about to change. When you get this issue worked out, I know which will be atop the pack again. However, I note that you haven't worked with a 325WSM yet. Just wait.

The 270 and 7 run neck and neck for me! Its good the 7 acted up, gave me some time to watch the 270 shine again! I have hiked that rifle a long way, it has some fond memories attached to it!

Funny, I have an aversion to .277. At least I thought I did, until I looked in my safe and saw four of them in there!

Great memories there, Scotty.

Don't get me wrong, guys. I do understand the merits of the 7mm.

So, the mulie and the elk were taken with your .338 WM, Scotty?
