I'm not a fan of a hard trigger pull although I can tolerate a stiffer pull weight if it has no creep and breaks really crisp. I acquired a Weatherby MkV a while back and before going to the range with it I checked the pull with my Lyman Electronic Trigger Pull Gauge. It happened to be set as light as it would adjust to which was 3 lbs. 5 oz. After shooting a few rounds I found the trigger was not what I was used to with the Jewell triggers. I've heard of smiths cutting a round or so off the trigger spring of the Wby's to lighten the pull by 1 to 1-1/2 lbs. but didn't want to ruin my spring. I did a few searches and came up with a replacement spring from Paull Firearm Specialities, (link posted below) for $6.95 plus $3.95 shipping and decided to try it. It arrived in a few of days and a couple more days passed and I decided it was time to install it. I also polished the sear while I had the trigger dissembled. After putting it all back together, before moving the adjusting screw from it's previous adjustment I checked the pull weight. It broke at 15 oz., checked it again and broke at 15 oz. again. Being way too light for a hunting rifle I adjusted it up to 2 lb. 8 oz. and it breaks extremely crisp and consistently within 1 oz. plus or minus. I am very happy with this MkV trigger now. Still not a Jewell but a very nice Weatherby trigger as good as a Timney and better than Rifle Basix in my experience.
I realize this is not everybody's thing, but to me the trigger on any weapon is a lot of it's accuracy. I just wanted to share this with others who may want to improve their Weatherby triggers for very little money.
He has replacement springs for lots of models and brands of rifles & some Remington shotguns.
