I really do love the 270Wby, the first cartridge Mr. Weatherby came up with and for all intents and purposes the most efficient of all his cartridge and it still is king after all these years of the 270's.

I think the vangard has a 3.50" magazine. To get reliable function max oal is about 3.495". This might be too long in your barrel. The way i determine this oal length is take a fired case and find one that grips a bullet fairly well but not too tight. With a permanent marker blacken the bullet. Put the bullet in the case at max magazine length. chamber it and look for lands contact. If you see none, pull the bullet out a bit and rechamber it until you see land marks. Once you see them run this test several times to get a good average measurement. This is now your touching lands measurement with that bullet. For hunting loads the oal needs to fit magazine and reliably function. For example: If your bullets is touching lands at an oal of 3.565" and reliable function in your magazine is at 3.495" a starting point of 3.495" is .070" off the lands. To find most accurate oal length you would shoot groups with a know accurate powder charge, at some fixed oal points. Like 3.495-3.490-3.485-3.480 etc Several OAL gauges are available to buy, to remove the black bullet experiment.

Hey welcome to the forum. I would make up a dummy round, no primer, no powder to length of your magazine first and once you settle on a length write it on the dummy round and keep it around. Then if you load for a different bullet it is a matter of sticking the dummy round into the die and screwing the seating stem down to the bullet and you can repeat your legth you like.
