My son, pictured here with good friends, had been out of state for a number of years. Finally an official resident this year - he got to use his resident deer tag today! Happy Thanksgiving!

Great to see him hunting Wyoming again! A great way to spend Thanksgiving Day.

New Haven Model 70 Coyote laminated, heavy barrel, 7mm WSM. Pretty sure he had enough gun...

That is an excellent cartridge. My 7mm WSM is a New Haven Featherweight. I've often said they made a mistake and let an almost perfect barrel get out of that factory. Yeah, I'm pretty sure he had enough gun. (y)

How far was his shot?

DrMike, He's got truly limited phone & internet capability where he is right now. I've heard none of the story yet myself. I'm anxious to know the details as well. I do know that he and his friends have teamed up on several nice deer over the last few years, to the point I believe it is time to spread their good fortune to at least the immediate family. Me, for example!

He says he's going to bring it by here for cutting and wrapping. Promised me some scraps. BTW, he reported the shot was 46 yards, the deer had gone behind some thick brush but then stepped out after a couple minutes. AccuBond through the heart (y)

Well, scraps beat nothing at all. Again, congratulations to your son. He did well.

That's one heckofa welcome home right there dang!!! Congrats to the both of you; him on a great buck and you on having your son back with you! I've always thought it said a lot about parents when their kids want to be near.

Congratulations to your son for a fine buck. That looks like a good bunch of friends. It is great to have someone to share the experience with - makes it all the better for him.
