I am on the coast again for a while, under the guise of Archery Elk hunting. I have committed to only hunting on nice days and trying to do maintenance on the cabin on the nasty days. Today was a nice day but we had a clam season, and I have not been able to clam since I hurt myself on the beach clamming last year at this time. It was also a daylight dig, which are really great and not raining nor more than a breeze. The temp was 55 degrees, and few people on the beach. Me and the grandma got our limits of 15 clams each, (me digging, her scouting ahead), in about 45 min. A pretty easy dig. We have another tomorrow then they switch over to nights, and the rain and wind returns. A nice day.

truck driver, yes they are, slightly smaller than years past, but the Fish and Game has increased the opportunities because of larger than estimated populations. We get a lot more digs in the coming months. And it really is fun when you almost can pick them up on the beach.

What caliber do you hunt clams with? :)

Oh man Bill. I am jealous. I suppose you're going to dip them in garlic butter?

Gosh your making my mouth water just thinking about it.

We usually fry them with eggs or make a really heavy thick (unhealthy) Clam Chowder.

Elman, it sounds like you're going heavy on the cream. (Definitely does do something to the taste though). I'm lucky enough in Florida to have a clam industry both wild and farm raised so that I can partake in Clam chowder. I don't think though that anything tastes as good as cold water clams.

Picked up 30 more today, our last dig until the end of the month when some more daylight digs are scheduled. Probably less that a hundred vehicles out there tonight. I love it !! Elk in the AM weather permitting.

Both of these are about as good as it gets. I have a hard time turning my truck East after eating a couple bowls of chowder and gorging on the eggs and clams....

Oh, and Vince that's an easy one.. If a cartridge or rifle were required for hunting clams I would bet there would be an old Model 70 300 Win Mag close by... He has a slew of others he calls back ups, but I can't say I have ever observed a "back up" rifle see the light of day in a few hunts we have been on together...

I'd probably bet a rocker it won't change soon...

Man that clam chowder sounds mighty good Bill.

I would bet 180gr Partitions would be more than enough for clams with that 300.
