What diff can a pressure point make? 378 at the range

I am sure Weatherby has done that already as they mention that pressure works best where they put the pads and they are about 2 inches from the end of the barrel channel ! FAQ section on Weatherby website addresses this issue but I have had a couple apart and that is where they put them for best accuracy I am sure !

Quote: Screws for wood stocks have a torque specification of 35 inch pounds. Please note, however, that you should tighten the rear screw first and then the front screw.
If yours is a Fibermark® or an Accumark® stock, the torque specification is 55 inch pounds.
The correct assembly procedure is:
Tighten the rear trigger guard screw first to 30 inch pounds.
Align the barrel to the center of the barrel channel in the fore stock.
Tighten the front trigger guard screw to 30 inch pounds.
Tighten the rear screw to 50-55 inch pounds.
Finally, tighten the front trigger guard screw to 50-55 inch pounds.
Applying this method, using a torque screwdriver of the proper size, will insure the proper fit between the receiver, and custom aluminum bedding block, as well as the proper positioning of the barrel in the barrel channel. This sequence is important as well !!

Quote: We have found through our testing that barrels having a smaller outside diameter than our #3 contour require upward pressure to help stabilize the barrel for increased accuracy. Our free floated barrels have enough rigidity in the barrel for them to be free floated.

I've never owned any light weight barrels and all have been of the standard sporting or hunting contour.
The one Weatherby I own is a S1 Vanguard which came in the cheap plastic neoprene stock. The Vanguard wasn't happy in it and is chambered for the 300 Wby. It torqued so badly in that stock that it broke a scope, popped the front sling stud out of the plastic with a Harris bipod hanging on it for add weight. I was shooting light reloads out of it to break the barrel in. I bought a B&C Medalist stock for it and a Zeiss Conquest. But before the B&C stock came I couldn't get it to shoot under 2" at 100yds. So I ground the pressure point out of the forearm and had to also grind off the top of the sling stud to free float the barrel. It started to come to life with the barrel floated but still needed a good foundation for the action. The B&C dropped the groups under an inch and it also had the pressure point in the forearm. But still wouldn't shoot like I expected it to. So I started to sand off the pressure point a little at a time and shoot it to see what would happen. The groups kept getting smaller as the pressure was removed. When the barrel was completely floated it would put 3 shots under .75 inch with 165gr.PT and .56" with 180gr. PT.
Some rifles respond to floating some don't. I've read that the old school Gun Smiths liked to completely full length glass bed the barrel and action. The idea being it would stabilize the barrel and seal the stock so it wouldn't warp if it got wet and dried out.
With that said, good shooting Fotis, I'm glad to see the 340 showing signs of being a good shooter.

Very cool Fotis. Glad that washer worked so well for ya.

My M700 35 Whelen is a tackdriver and still sports the Remington pressure pad up front.. Funny how two like rifles will react so differently to different types of bedding.

My Pre64 is fully intact with the stock and even has 45 Inch Lb's of tq on the barrel bolt. Shoots real well just like that.

Same rifle after it was re bedded by wby and returned to me.

Very nice Fotis. That has to make you smile.

Still have the NF on top? What a horse of a load!

Yup! but the new NF on it 2.5x10x40mm The 250 GMX and the 300 GS customs are next

Can't wait Fotis! What do you think of the scope? Seems very impressive.

YUP Will be trying the Hornady 250 gr GMX and the 300 gr GS Custom HV next

So you never did show the O-ring that started all this
Really was it a o-ring for a water faucet valve?

Fotis,

What exactly did they do to it? Can you post a photo?
Just wondering if they only did the recoil lug or whole action or what.

Thanks!

Fotis,

Just wondering if you had a chance yet to take a peek at what they did.
