That is a nice one Ernie!
Funny thing is, I would have shot a spike, if one had presented itself. A scorer wanted to score it after it went through the drying time, and it ended up being 335 after deductions. I am more of a meat hunter for elk, so this is probably the best bull I will ever take. Public land in the Bighorns (29 yards)...One and done.

I agree, when it comes to elk...if it's brown it's down!

7mm Rem Mag, 700 ADL, 3-9x Leupold. Handloaded 175 grain Nosler Partition with a max load of H870. 180ish yards one shot, dropped within a few faltering steps. Nice 6x6 Wyoming bull elk:

And just a few years ago, 2016, was fortunate enough to draw a late season cow elk tag only a few miles from my home! A single handloaded 165 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip @ 2940 fps from my 30-06 did a fine job on her:

I keep trying to draw that same tag. :)

.30-06 165 gr grand slam
.300 wm 180 ab
7mm-08 150 ablr, 145 grand slam
.270 grand slam, core lokt, AccuBond
Most of these have been cow tags or spike bulls.
Can buy an otc cow or spike tag for archery so most of mine have been archery kills including a limited entry tag that produced a 350 bull about a decade ago. Here is this years- FE93AD8D-069E-478C-A5F6-E875CCD1ABC9.jpeg

Ooh good thread! 😍

For me as follows:

.243 Win w/ 100 grain Corelokt (head shot)
.25-06 Remington w/ 120 grain Corelokt
7mm Rem Mag w/ 150 grain ballistic tip
.300 Savage w/ 150 grain Power Point
.308 Win w/ 165 grain Sierra GK and 180 grain Remington Corelokt
.30-06 w/ 150 grain Barnes X bullet, 165 grain Hornady Interlock, Nosler Partition and Nosler AccuBond (the latter is my favorite)
.300 Win Mag w/ 180 grain Nosler Partition
8mm Rem Mag w/ 220 grain Sierra GK
.338 Lapua Mag w/ 270 grain ELDX

I love trying different cartridges and bullet designs. I have no doubt this list will continue to grow.
