Guy, and in that sense, it is great to have learned from our fore fathers! My Grandad had an old Winchester lever gun in 348 Winchester. What a great shooting rifle. I was lucky to be able to carry it during an elk season back in '78.

That 348 Winchester is an awesome round. Talk about a powerhouse in a lever rifle. I hope to have one them in the future. Winchester is making a run of them so hopefully i can get on one of them. Scotty
ya mean one of these?

yep I got guns that don't shoot a mile!

I am officially jealous now!! Have wanted a model 71 in a 348 since I was a teenager. They are either too expensive or in really rough shape when I find one. What weight bullet do you load for bear?

200 gr hornadys in front of 4985, now to be honest, its not an original, its a browning repro I bought new in 1992, think it was 600.00 bucks then, but better for what I wanted it for than a 1000.00 original, shoots well and is handy in the thick stuff.

RR,

That is a sweet looking rifle. Repro or not, I'd love to have one. It is certainly a classic chambering.

Yep! That is the huckleberry! Man I would just fall over myself to get any M71 for 600.00! Scotty

the story how I ended up with a 348 is kinda wierd, didn't think much of it when I first got it, a few deer and bear later its a different story.

Cartridge wise it has a bunch of powder room. I think alot of folks were building 450's using them M71's too. I would love to have one if for no other reason than fun factor. Scotty

I have to question my decision making process... pick on the Jarhead... dumb!
Never question yourself for picking on Scotty and his choice of trucks! He rates every bit of it since he picks on me for driving a Ford! Bad part is he rides with me more than I ride with him

Subconsciously, at least, he knows that Ford is much better than Dodge. He just doesn't want to admit it.

It is hard to drive when you are blindfolded in order to conceal routes to known honey holes! I can pick on Fords a little! All I have driven were Ford Diesels up until I got the Dodge. Figured I would try something else.

We won't even bring up the point of me parking the Dodge next to your Ford and then it started peeing on itself! I almost felt sorry for the old Ford! Scotty

What the heck? Sound like you're the victim of a SEAL training exercise, not going hunting/fishing!

Kurt you gotta watch these Virginians! They make sure they keep their hunting places secure! Scotty

No slight intended, but yes, I must dis the mighty Dodge. Ever since I found a bug in two Pepsis in a row while living in Texas, I've had some difficulty drinking the stuff. I confess, I'm a loyal Coke fan. It is almost as addictive as Winchester rifles.

I lived in Texas for a couple of years too and I still am never surprised when I hear stories like what you are talking about. My favorite is when the cockroaches get into everything. Or eating cow gut soup...Yuck! The Mexicans call it Menudo, I call it cruel and unusual! I have a strong stomach but every man has that list of two or three things he can't stand and that is Number 1.

And I do agree that Winchester Rifles are the best...no interventions needed here either!

But I won't be rolling in a Ford anytime soon. Haha, you hear that fellas, that rustling is the sound of my Grandfather rolling in his grave...he was a huge Ford man, never bought anything else car or truck.

Leave it to "Bus Driver" Scotty! I thought I could hear a bus at the range! Joel and me just finished having a few brews and a great day at the range.

+1 Brian...It was a great day at the range!! I hope you can post the picture of what the 200 grain AB does to 1/2 inch hardened steel with the RUM. I learned some great tips on pistol shooting today and survived shooting the 45-70  .
BTW...Brian grills a "mean" venison steak! Thank you for your fantastic hospitality.

That said I'd still like to take one with my 458 Lott! 350 Barnes TSX at 2800+ fps (the sicko that I am!)

I have one of those and have thought about the same thing. I might drag it along to Alaska this year.

Pop,

What happen to the .416 325gr AB's we were suppose to get? My .416 is feeling the need for a new bullet. I have been shooting the 300gr X's lately but might try the new tipped 350's.
