I haven't hunted for last many years and hope to spend time in the woods this year.
I need to load up ammo for the 260 (same as the 6.5 creedmore of course). Wondered if some of you
would be willing to share info on your favorite loads?
My favorite up to date bullet for the 6.5 Creedmoor would be the 120 Nosler Ballistic Tips. Best powder I used is H4350 for a velocity of a modest 3,025 fps out of a 26 inch barrel. It's so accurate that I never have to try any other load or bullet. I never tried the 140 Ballistic Tips yet, but I would in a heartbeat if they were available. 143 ELD-X is great as well, but I don't fancy it as much as Ballistic Tips.
I took down a red stag cow at 230 yards back in January with the 120 Ballistic Tip. Used a tripod standing up and the bullet hit it square center in the neck while facing me and it dropped like a sack of bricks with baseball sized exit under the back of its skull. The same day, did a ear shot on a doe around 150 yards. I won't change that load since there is no reason to.
I load my 260 with the 143 ELDx and around 43gr of Superformance. I also have a lighter recoil for my daughter 129gr interlock and 33gr of H4895. I used to load H4831SC but when powder got scarce I came across the superform and save my 4831 for my 25-06.
Since I have to use lead-free, I use the Lehigh CC 122 gr.
Since the front fragments, it works more like a lead core bullet.
Groups around 1/2 moa for me out of a Savage storm
I’ve used these 6.5 mm bullets with great effect on whitetail.
120 Barnes TTSX
120 ballistic tip
130 AB
129 interlok
140 interlock
140 hot-cor
140 gameking
Hunting load: 130gn Swift Scirocco over 46.5gn of Superformance. This is lightning death on White tails.
Long range plinking: 129gn Hornady SST over 43gn of RL-17. It’s sun MOA a at 300 yards and makes first shot hits on a 20” gong at 1,000 yards.
All from the same hunting rifle.
