I want to know what power I have to use to obtain the better results when I reload 260 REM with 100 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip or Silver Tip, I have on hand some IMR's. I use this cartidge for deer shoots at distances from
150 to 250 yrds.
I have a mountain rifle LSS in this cartridge and while I don't shoot 100 grainers, I get spectacular results with H4350, with the 120 btip I use 46 gr and with the 125 Partition 45.5. Of The last 12 3 shot groups, I shot 10 were under an inch including a .8 inch group today with a bit of wind and the Partition load at 200 yards. I would really recommend the slightly bigger bullet and H4350.
Well, about the best powder I have found is WW760. I have a SS A-bolt II, and starting is around 45 grains, with a 48 grain max. for the 100 gr BT, ST or Partition. if you step up to the 120 gr bullets, max load is 45 grains, and starting should be around 42 grains. PLEASE start on the lower starting loads, and watch your pressure signs like flattened primers. These loads produce top notch (1/2 moa or better) accuracy out of my FACTORY Browning, and top end velocity.
I have a Rem. model 7 with a 20 inch barrel. The book says IMR 4064 is best like 41grs. and in my gun they are right. 41grs. of Varget also worked well. I tried using W760 and it was no good so like they say work em up. That 4064 load gave me half inch groups and in a 6.5 pound gun that is very cool.
I have both a M700 Varmiter with a 25in tube and a M7 with the older 18.5 inch tube.
A max charge of H414 and 100gr B-tips out of the 700 is phenominaly accurate and fast.
H414 also works great with the 130gr A-bonds. I just found a load last weekend @ 5/8 of an inch out of the M7 with it.
Viht N560 also has great accuracy results out of the 700 w/130 grainers.
