Pulled out of the back of a safe, a Tikka 695 in 280 Rem. Has been there for a while, when I purchased it, it certainly looked new and I have not fired it.

Trying to think, if there is something to make? Already have 338Fed, 338 WM and 35 Whelen covered.

Either leave as a 280 (already have a couple) or what?

Have been interested in the 338-06 and I drive by JES twice a week for a couple more weeks, so easy to drop off.

Sway my thoughts

Never owned a 280 rem though I have reloaded for some

The 280 Rem is a good one, capable of handling anything I'm NA with the right bullet. If you want something different, why not a 280AI? With a 140 gr bullet at 3200 fps, 150 gr at 3100 or 160 gr at 3000 fps, it shoots flat and hits hard!

I like Jim's thinking! I had a 280 Remington and loved it. I built a 280 AI and I hate to say it but love it just a tad more. What an efficient accurate game killing cartridge!
The 338-06 sure would be a great one though as well. Good luck with whatever you decide.

If you already have a couple 280's I'd be interested in the 338-06 especially if you're right there by JES.

JES already did a Tikka T3 into a 35 Whelen for me. Turned out right nice and shoots great too

Might just have to shoot regular old 280 with 160 PT and see how she does.

If it shoots great, or better than your other 280's,leave as a 280.
And then have one of the other 280's rebored to 338-06.
If it doesn't shoot that well, then rebore it to 338-06.

The 338-06 is a great cartridge, and pairs very well with the 280!
I have both a 280 and a 338-06 built on LH Rem 700 actions and they make a great pair for hunting a wide variety of game!
