Whatever happened to the Remington Etronx?
Many years back Remington was marketing a bolt action small caliber rifle using an electronic fire control system versus the mechanical system used in virtually all other modern rifles. The concept sounded interesting. Did it really provide any real benefits in improved accuracy? Was the reliability of the system compromised by cold weather affecting the reliability of the battery? Did anyone get one and re-barrel it to a larger caliber for medium game hunting, 7mm-08 or .308? All I ever saw was that the factory ammo was extremely expensive and primers for handloaders cost about 3x that of regular primers. Sounds like a novel concept that just never caught on; was it a marketing failure, or were there product related reasons for its demise?
