What's on YOUR Bench?

Greg,
I have often admired the 340 Weatherby. Lots of horsepower, awesome rifle. Love the Weatherby actions too. I own all Remington Rifles at this point, someday I'll own a Weatherby.
Good luck on load development, keep us informed.

Don

I'm like Elkman and some of the others. I find ONE GOOD LOAD with a very good bullet (NOSLER) and then that is what I shoot in that rifle. Elkman check out the idea I have for the practice like you said, not off the bench but field positions, that we all can do and it won't break the bank! I think it will be fun. Yes the 1ST SHOT number one is off the bench, but it will change every two weeks. :p

ONE & DONE- 1ST SHOT

Well, I just added one more today--a Sako 85 chambered in 270 WSM to be loaded with 140 grain ABs. This should be a straight forward load. Most 270 WSMs devour 140 grain ABs with all the gusto of a redbone hound.

Mike,
I get to work on loads for the 300 wsm from NOSLER.
Russ

As for multiple loads for one rifle, I was forced into that with some of calibers since I lived in the Condor Zone in CA. So several of my rifles I had to develope E-Tip loads, if available or Barnes bullets if not, so I could go shoot a hog with them.

Now Rod don't try and fool us into thinking you are a submissive whipped pup! There are a lot of us that know you have been up to no good (man projects), so show us all a couple photo's mister! :p

Hear, hear!

Not going to load anything else but 7WSM. I have about 57 days to switch the barrel on the big girl and develop load for it for the July 31st shoot.

DF, are you using standard LR primers, not magnums, in your 7 Wizzum?

The 7mm WSM must qualify as my favourite short magnum. I have found them to be easy to load for. I assume that the components pictured are destined for your 7mm WSM. If so, what charge of RL25 are you using?

I'll start it with regular primer. 7WSM is not that big of a case and has a shorter powder column. So regular large rifle primer will have no problem igniting the charge.

I'll start with 65 grains. My goal is to push the 180 Berger VLD at around 2900+fps.

That's smoking. I'm primarily pushing 160 ABs with a stiff charge of MagPro. It is a great hunting load.

Vince Bottomly broke the 5 year old 1K record in the UK with his 7WSM using 66.7 grain of Reloader 25 and 180 grain Berger Match VLD. His group measured 2.670". His getting 3000 fps from a 30"-8 twist Krieger. I was hoping I can duplicate that load with my 30"-8 twist Broughton 5C barrel. Here's the article.

I remember the article; it is an excellent read. You have certainly chosen a cartridge that can deliver; and the way you shoot, you should be posting some pretty exciting pictures of very small groups shortly. I don't doubt that you will be able to achieve some good velocities with that load. This will be exciting as you work up loads.

Thanks DrMike. I already installed the 7WSM barrel and I'll be developing load here in no time.

Already sorted out brass by weight and measured neck wall thickness. This Winchester brass has very uniformed neck wall. I measured on average around .015-.017. The weight however varied from 230 to 233 grains with a few 229 (5) and 234 (8) out of 150 pieces of brass. I'll group the 230 with 231 and the 232 with 233, and see if there will be any variation in my range result. It's time for brass prep.

I'll be intrigued to see if there is a significant difference in your results with weight sorted brass. I gave up weight sorting when I began to focus on hunting rounds. I have friends that are very careful in that department however, and some of them produce some excellent results, so there must be something to it. It is good to hear of the consistency in neck thickness with the WW brass, however.
