What's on YOUR Bench?

I got 9 rds of 210 NP for my .338-06 to test and 9 rds of 140 NP for my .280 to test. Just hoping to catch a break on the heat one Sat morning.

I'll be intrigued to see if there is a significant difference in your results with weight sorted brass. I gave up weight sorting when I began to focus on hunting rounds. I have friends that are very careful in that department however, and some of them produce some excellent results, so there must be something to it. It is good to hear of the consistency in neck thickness with the WW brass, however.
Process of elimination DrMike, that's all

I loaded 3sets of 5 rounds to be chronograph on my next trip to the range. I started with 65.5, 66.0, and 66.5. The loading density is around 95 %. I still have room for one or two more grain if I need to. The barrel was throated long. My COAL is 3.195" just barely kissing the land. I also checked the run-out of the loaded round and it's not as low as I wanted to, around .003 -.005. It'll tightened up after the first firing and resizing that for sure.

DF - we need to find you a better beer to advertise when you add pictures!!! :p
Ack, I'm running out of the good stuff that's why I'm drinking this watered down Dutch piss.

 DF - I see most of your tastes go south of the border. You need to come up here where we can show you what some good winter beers taste like. You do have some good flavors for the Kali heat!! I used to drink Henni's but went to the DARK side.

Scott -
What is the load you are using with the 210 PT in the 338-06? I have my favorite, so I want to see what is working for you. I am cleaning mine right now after a range day. More copper fouling than I care to talk about. It has some Butches sitting in it right now doing the magic.

Joel, I think the first thing you need to do in order to make that old 338-06 shoot is make it a 358-06!!!! Just kidding with you buddy!

DF, I would drink any of those beers with you buddy! Scotty

Joel - I haven't shot any of them yet and these are my first loads to try with the 210PT. I've decided to try RL15 first with three shots each of 51.5, 53.5, and 54.5. I know the last one is 1gr over recommended per the Nos 6 manual but I want to see what the pressure is like and how it performs.

Scott -
My sweet spot with the 210 and R15 was 53 grains. I look forward to hearing how yours works. I use Federal 210M primers with a seating depth of 3.400 FWIW. They work well on woodchuck sized critters in Scotty's world...

Scotty,

That 358-06 sounds interesting. Wonder if it is time for a new build. Otherwise, I'll just have to shoot my Whelen.

Oh, it is Mike. Like Joel said, that 338-06 knocked that moose straight down and threw legs in the air. The 358-06 throws them down then quarters and wraps them too. I imagine if you already have the Whelen, you'll see similar results! Scotty

Seeing as RL15 works so well in the Whelen, I can't see it not working as well in the 338-06 with the 200-225's like in Joels case. Just a great mid range powder with alot going for it. Scotty

Joel,

I've seen that picture several times now. Would you mind sending me a picture of a moose with the spot marked where you shot it? I need to see that spot for future reference.

Right behind the left antler/ear as you look at the picture, bout half way down the neck. You can see where some of the blood was flowing. Golf-ball sized hole out the side I'm kneeling on.

I'm sure you have seen enough of these to not need an anatomy lesson from me...

Should be close enough for government work! Don't try to Quik Load it either, it is a really "WILD CAT"!

Joel, I think Mike has killed more moose than Grey Wolves! Scotty

I dunno', Joel. I still think if you drew a picture and pointed out that spot, it would be very helpful.
