Either of those are dialed in very nicely, Ron. Congratulations on some fine loads.

Boy, we're getting quite a group of guys here with the 7WSM/Whelen combo!

Good shooting there!

Ron,

Nice shooting. Your 35 Whelen, like mine, seems to like a varity of bullets. RL 15 is THE powder for the 35 Whelen.

Thanks, guys. The load for the Whelen was one I came up with by looking at the Nosler data. It looks like it oughta work.

Scotty, among others, had wondered about the 120 BT/7WSM combo so I thought I'd try it. I'm thinking it should absolutely hammer whitetails or similar critters. After loading the Whelen ammo I checked and the same charge would work in the 7 so I loaded up a test batch.

I'm hoping to do some jug tests when I have more time.

Ron

The 35 Whelen is a Remington 700 with a Burris 3-9x scope.

The 7WSM is a Winchester 70 with a Nikon 4-12 Scope

Man, those look excellent, I would run with your 225gr AB load in your Whelen and hunt happily! That is probably running about 2600+ or so out of your rifle and it looks darned accurate.

Thanks for the 7WSM loads as well. Those look very promising and would be a good load to break my son in on the 7WSM too. Did you use the 58gr's of RL15 for the 7WSM as well? If not, what was your load.

Great shooting and another Whelen makes me smile. Those 338-06 guys really need to step up their game, I think us Whelen guys are pulling ahead! Scotty

Scotty, all loads used 58.0gr of RL-15. I'd just gotten off duty and changed clothes. I knew I wouldn't be able to go right to sleep (0130) so I loaded the Whelen ammo. I had wanted to try the 120/7WSM combo and found it would be safe with the same load so I made up a small batch to try.

I knew I pulled the second (right) shot in the photo or it would probably have been better. I don't know the exact velocity of the 120's (estimate about 3350) but I think they'd pull the carpet out from under a deer if I put one behind his/her ribs.

Gotta say, though, very pleased and impressed with the Whelen, rifle and cartridge alike.

Ron
