The 30-06 with the 150gr GS HV is a laser for an 06 at 3095fps. You should see how fast this 150gr GS HV will move in my 300wby. When I finish the load work with it you will be impressed at the velocities and hopefully the accuracy.

All that said, I do want some thing I have wanted for years to hunt in the thickets because down here when the wind picks up even the does and young buck will not come to the fields, food plots or gas-lines. The real big bucks every blue moon might step out on a field or gas-line when it is not windy but never have I seen a 3 1/2 year old or older buck do it when the wind is up.

The 358 will work perfect for it. Plus, you know I am not into shots over 450 to 500yds although I have taken them on game out to 618yds, but I am not a long range hunter. I like the hunt to much for that. My 06 or 300 have the energy and flat trajectory for bean fields, large plots and gas-line right aways not to mention the 257wby.

So in a couple of weeks I will have me a Ruger Hawkeye 358 Win and will be shooting and trying the 225 AccuBond and Sierra 225 GK. I have three thick wooded bottoms and 4 thickets I am going to find myself in next year and try and harvest a large buck. Down here that is a feet in itself. Infact get one buck a year is a feat and anything extra down here is a bonus. Going to improve my odds on the big ones this coming year.

Just a word of caution from someone who has played a lot with 358's.

The 225 AB will not work....too long for a short cartridge. Wayyyyyyy too much seating needed. It will work for the 35 Whelen though.
For the 358 I used the 225 Sierra, the hornadies and the 200 grain Barnes TSX.

You know I never thought of that, point well made. Hmmmmm?????? A Partition would work don't you think?

Yup the 225 Partition would work great!

My experience with the Hawkeye is great. Mine shoots far better than it should. I suspect that you'll love it.

In my 358 Hawkeye, I have exceptional loads worked up with the 200 grain TSX, the 225 Sierra Game King and with the 225 Partition. I am having excellent results with TAC and 10X powders. And 748 is a great performer with the Partition.

Thanks, you guys are cool and the info POP and DrMike will save time and money.

Glad to help. Consequently, the velocities reported in the latest Barnes Manual with the 200 grain TSX are phenomenal. I suggest you approach them with caution, but they appear to be achievable. Nevertheless, I'm not undergunned with the 225 Game King or the 225 Partition for most game in North America.

Bullet. do not discount your 450 Marlin for the aforementioned task.

Well that would be hard to do since I gave it away to a friend who could use it in the thick stuff he hunts in. Anyway he has always wanted a thumper like the 450 so I gave it to him and he is having fun with it.

That is nice of you!!!!! 8)

It is still yours though right?

No, I gave it to him. Nothing like a man really wanting something and you only say he can borrow it. No, I gave it to him and he is having a lot of fun with it and I know what that is like when you get a new toy. He is a cool guy anyway and he is addicted to guns like me so understand the addiction.

bullet,

That is a very cool thing to do.

Do you wanna give me your 257 Weatherby? PLEASE.

Bullet you are wayyyy too kind! Good for you sir!

It's great to have friends like that; and it is even greater to be a friend like that.

Jim, as much as I like you and your great post and know I would like to hunt with you I don't think the 257Wby is going anywhere. Sorry

So the 450 in your signature Bullet will be replaced with a 358 huh?
