The 30-06 with the 150gr GS HV is a laser for an 06 at 3095fps. You should see how fast this 150gr GS HV will move in my 300wby. When I finish the load work with it you will be impressed at the velocities and hopefully the accuracy.
All that said, I do want some thing I have wanted for years to hunt in the thickets because down here when the wind picks up even the does and young buck will not come to the fields, food plots or gas-lines. The real big bucks every blue moon might step out on a field or gas-line when it is not windy but never have I seen a 3 1/2 year old or older buck do it when the wind is up.
The 358 will work perfect for it. Plus, you know I am not into shots over 450 to 500yds although I have taken them on game out to 618yds, but I am not a long range hunter. I like the hunt to much for that. My 06 or 300 have the energy and flat trajectory for bean fields, large plots and gas-line right aways not to mention the 257wby.
So in a couple of weeks I will have me a Ruger Hawkeye 358 Win and will be shooting and trying the 225 AccuBond and Sierra 225 GK. I have three thick wooded bottoms and 4 thickets I am going to find myself in next year and try and harvest a large buck. Down here that is a feet in itself. Infact get one buck a year is a feat and anything extra down here is a bonus. Going to improve my odds on the big ones this coming year.
