If a reloader was to be limited to only four powders(for rifle cartridges) to load the spectrum of say .223 thru the big magnums; which four powders would you choose?

Scott

Mostly I use only two:

Varget & H4350. Those are the two rifle powders I buy in 8 pound containers.

In addition to those, I like to have RL-22 and RL-15 & Retumbo on hand as well, though they're not really necessary if all I've got is Varget & H4350.

I've always found that between R19, R15, Varget & H1000, I've found great loads for everything from .204 Ruger to 375 H&H.

I would be just fine with:

Either varget or RL15
H4350
RL17 for specific applications
Either RL22 or 7828

Ramshot Hunter and Big Game, Varget, and H4350.

As I'm 35, I reserve the right to change my picks! I've only reloaded for 4 or so years...

IMR 8208 (Varget a close second)
Big Game
H 4350 (H4831 sc a close second)
Retumbo

I could drop the Retumbo in favor of H4831 sc but the guys with the big boomers would do better with Retumbo.

well

H4831 or sc
rl 15
blc2 223
rl 25 all the big ones

If i could have only 4

colse second
rl 19, h4895, h4350, retumbo

I have been trying for a couple of years to reduce my inventory to a maximum of two or three powders. My current 4 are as follows.

3031, .223/45/70
Varget, .308
H-4350, 300 Magnums, 06, .280, 7MM RM
H-1000, 7MM STW

I have several pounds of other various powders that I have used for testing that I am slowly burning up.

Mine would be:

1.CFE,XBR8208 or H335
2. Varget
3. IMR 4350
4. Retumbo or 7828

Lets see now ! Hmm ! 4198- 3031-4895-4064-4350-7828-4831- h110-h380 - h414- h322- rl15,17,19,22,25 Tac -Varget-8208- 1000 OH CRAP i can not just load and shoot with just 4 powders - are you CRAZY or something !

Cheers  RJ
