Who are we

A pretty large percentage of people on this forum are Christians. I think that this forum supports Christian values and faith in a largely secular world. A good thing in my opinion!

One of the funniest things I ever heard was in Airborne School "there are no atheists on the end of a static line"

This is true, Scotty! There are no atheists in a firefight either! They may be taking the name of God in vain but not because they don't believe!

Amen OT3, he wants us to be real :).
It is all about a personal relationship okay no more preaching
That is for me only:)

Blessings,
Dan

Oh Boy.... How do I start this.....

Dropped out of Okla State and turned down an Army Scholarship to become a Marine Private. Had also turned down an Engineering Scholarship to Purdue. Had too.... spent 18 years listening to my Father and his welder/pipefitter cronies gripe about engineers all those years growing up, so I had too avoid having to deck one of them later on.

Raised in smnall town Oklahoma.... roughly 460 residents with a graduating class of 32. I was senior class VP. And if I wasn't related to half the town, I was related to someone related to someone...if ya get my drift. Currently living in my parents house which I was raised in....on property that has been in my family since the 1890's.

Married my HS sweetheart while on leave between Infantry School and my Primary School. We have been together since August 1969. Why she puts up with my crap is beyound me!!

Here she is stripper fishing with a very good friend in Arkansas.... He was USAF Intell.... speaks Russian like a native when he feels like it.

And an early photo of me....the camera survived the trip...the Marine who took the pic didn't.

Yes Lucy....I am a snake eater.

During the 23 years, 3 months and 13 days of eating at the Corps feed trough, I managed to pick up a BA, BS and MS. Refused direct commissioning once.... OCS twice. I was having way too much fun as an NCO.

Retired as a Master Sergeant with a Primary MOS of 0369, Infantry Leader, with about a half dozen Secondary MOS's. Wife figured 3 kids was enough and I needed something to keep me busy.

Have three daughters..... eldest turns 40 this month. My how time flies when ya doing time.

After figuring out I didn't want anymore responsibility beyound the family, I took a Machinist job with a small, Production Screw Machine Shop. We lost the owner to cancer in '95, bosses wife finally was able to run off his brother in '02..... so guess who is the Shop Manager now! Yeah..still working for the Lady... she can be a pain, but let's me do what I want, the way I want.

I rarely hunt anymore. Grandson's not really old enough yet and since loosing my Father in '98, not alot of thrill in it anymore. Plus..... I refuse to go into the woods during deer season with hunter''s thinking they need 300WinMag's to hunt areas where a 30-30 is almost too much rifle. Especially when you hear them in gun shops talking about their 'sound shots'.

Only hunt hogs during the off seasons.... not gonna post that pic.... it's been seen enough.

I've had a collection of short stories published.... nothing to brag about. Local publishing and sales.

But when I get real bored, I have 2 easels set up and splash paint upon them.

Brace yourself...... this can be horrible....

I did 4 of these in different colors..... they are currently in the Accounts Office of a Cosmetics Company in Atlanta, GA.

This one..... not sure where it is today.... Eldest Daughter took it and several others to the Art Room of one of the local ScFi Conventions.... some dummy bought it.

I do shoot as often as I can get to the range. Also every April, a group of us meet in Texas to camp out, eat great BBQ, burn up alot of ammo at ranges up too 1000 yards and at night, when the firearms are put away, sip a bit of necter and remember the friends we lost. Four great days with great friends. And not all are veterans, but good people none the less.

Ok...I've bored ya too death here...... sorry.... but I is how I be cause I not be someone else.

Hey Guys, I am really enjoying this. It is good to hear about what makes us tick

Blessings,
Dan

My mother griped about my grandfather being an electronics engineer at Bell Labs. Actually, that convinced me that I wanted to be one, an engineer that is! However, I did have to listen to machinists and toolmakers tell me how stupid I was for 40 years though. I just took it with a grain of beer and they mostly (with overtime pay) made more money than I did, despite my 9 years of college and 10 years of learning my trade.

After high school I moved to Colorado and was a ski bum, I spent 2 years in lift operations and 5 years as a ski patroller. I felt the calling to join the service at 25 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after my 7th year in the mountains. After boot camp I was assigned to the Marine Corps school of infantry where I went through schooling to become an assault-man. My specialty within the infantry was anti-tank assault and demolitions. That amounts to the SMAW rocket, JAVELIN missile, TOW missile, explosives and urban breaching.

Following the Marine Corps, I did a few different jobs but finally settled down as a Territory Manager/Branch Manager/Salesman for a company that sells equipment to install underground utilities. Including electric, fiber, irrigation, water service ect... I cover a little over 25,000 sq miles and have about 126,000 people in my territory. I have been there a little over three years. I love my job, not sure my wife likes the part about me being gone though, but it pays the bills.

I thought I would add a few pics to this, I really like seeing everyone's pics.

Here's one while I was ski bumming it up

Did 25 years and 3 months in our local Police Department. Made a lot of life long friends, and lost a few also :x. Retired when the USDA offered me a job doing bird/animal control work at one of our airports. It was time for a change in venue. Been doing it for a little over six years now. Getting paid to go bird hunting now. Retirment job pays for the hunting trips now.

Born and raised in Montana, grew up on a small ranch my grandparents had until my parents divorced when I was 10. Sisters went with my mother (8 & 12 yrs old) and I went with my father. Started fishing, shooting, and hunting at about 5 years of age. I love the outdoors, and more than anything else I wanted to be a rancher. Still wish that dream would have worked out.

My father always wanted to box when he was a kid, so when we moved he wanted me to try boxing. There were boxing clubs in almost every town nearby including Hamilton where I graduated from H.S. I tried it at his urging at the age of 12. Over the course of 12 years I had 178 amateur fights. My final record was 140 win, 38 defeat. Proud to say I fought two world champions, Virgil Hill (silver medal 1984 Olympics also) and Johnny Bumphus (he was to go to 1980 Olympics until USA boycotted). I was ranked #2 in the Western United States for a couple years in a row in my weight class. Loved boxing because you got out of it what you put into it and you had no-one to blame but yourself if you did poorly. Did win a bronze medal at the 1987 World Police & Fire Games in San Diego California. Started fighting at 85 pounds and heaviest I fought at was 178 pounds, light heavy.

I've worked for the Sheriff's Office for 27 years now. Twenty two years on patrol and five in detectives. Plan on doing three more and calling it a day. Proud to say that I work as hard if not harder today as I did when I first started. I think I gravitated towards this job because I enjoy helping people. There are not many rewards that come with the job, but once in a while it feels so good when I am able to do something that really helps someone. I have been married to my wife Jennifer for 19 years. I have a daughter 22, son 16, and my little boy who was taken from us when he was 19 months old, almost six years ago. The hurt often times feels like it was just yesterday.

I was raised in a Lutheran church and we are now members of the Alliance Church where we live. It's a wonderful church we are a part of that has some amazing people in it. I can't help but add that I am about 1/3 Norwegian, 1/3 German, and 1/3 Irish. Oh my, I never stood a chance did I!

My dad got me reloading at 12 years of age and I've never looked back. You guys sure aren't much help either!

I started working in a Glass shop at the age of 14 and 35 years later I am still at it. I started my own shop 13 yars ago and it has been very rewarding. I have great employees that are encouraging me to take some time off. It is hard to get used to but I am trying. I have been building alot of commercial Real estate lately and I should retire soon but I am still haveing alot of fun with the Glass shop. I go hunting every year so I can get my head screwed on straight. So lets see what I come up with year. I have a wonderful woman in my life that is so understanding with the guns, hunting, muscle cars, Harleys and all the hours I work. I am a very Lucky man. Brian

I joined the USAF in 1982 after I dropped out of my sophomore year of college. I spent four years in active duty as an avionics tech working on C-5A, C-141B and C-130E&H model aircraft. I left the USAF in 1986 and joined the Air Natl Guard as a full-time technician. I have performed numerous duties in Avionics, Quality Assurance and supervision while supporting C-5A and C-17A aircraft. I went back to school part-time and completed a BSAS - Electronic Tech and a BS-Management earlier in my career but avoided all requests to switch to the dark side. My career has brought me all over the world for various reasons. Some of these deployments were outstanding, some not so much. I continue to supervise maintenance efforts and get in as much travel as I can as I have always enjoyed the real-world side of our mission. Watching a cargo offload of armored vehicles of various designs, water distillation systems, HUMVEE up-armor kits, submersible vehicles, helos, Patriot missile systems or pallets full of care packages is very rewarding. I now have 30 yrs of service and expect the axe to fall at any time.

I have a beautiful wife and two fantastic offspring who are in college now. I have served as a Little League coach, Cub Scout Packmaster, Boy Scout Leader, soccer coach, 4-H leader, and Girl Scout leader. I am addicted to golf, fishing and hunting.

Well, I grew up in northern Missouri. Met my wife there, joined the USAF before we were married. I've been in 12 years now as an ICBM launch officer. Got to take a trip to see the middle east, and have lived in CA, WY, NE, NV, and LA in those years. The wife and I have 2 kids now, a 3-year old princess and a 5-year old boy. As for school, I think it is never ending for me. Mizzou for my undergrad, Iowa State for a Master's, grad of the USAF Weapons School, Air Command and Staff College (ACSC) (correspondence only so far). My wife and I were talking this morning about all my various schools, because my preschoolers asked how long they would have to go to school for. I should find out about ACSC in residence this November.

But really I like to run (but I've only run one full marathon, half marathon training is much more maneageable), and I enjoy the outdoors and love elk hunting more than anything else I've done. In the end I work too much and choose to spend time I could be shooting with my wife and kids. I only have and load for a 30-06 right now, and I need to get my 5-year old a Savage Rascal to join me at the range!
