I must have to much time on my hands at the moment because I have alot of strange wildcat ideas popping into my head. The first group is based on the .375 Ruger; I'm thinking .264 through .338. A little more case capacity, headspacing on the shoulder and better feeding. If Winchester would stretch the WSM case to 2.5" or Remington could shorten it's Rum case....
I have a Win 70 classic In 300WM that I picked up as a donor for a custom 375 ruger but my mind is wandering. Why do you suppose none of the big manufacturers have done this? I know about the Dakotas but their brass and reamers get expensive.

Scott

Gunwerks is suppose to be getting Hornady to make them brass and dies for their 7lrm which is a 7-375 Ruger with a different shoulder and longer neck. Brass is suppose to be around 1.25 each and dies around 70.00. Another problem with the Dakota case is the case head size is .545 like the .404 instead of .532 like the Ruger, RUM, WSM, and belted mags.

I really thought Ruger was going to go that direct, at least a big 30 and a big 338.. They went the other way and it doesn't really look to good for them...

I know the WSM works pretty well as they sit, mimicking the larger Win Mag cases, on a short action. I imagine there just isn't enough call for them though? No idea, I really think Ruger/Hornady would have been onto something with a Standard Magnum cartridge on the 375 Ruger. Heck, I have really thought alot about the 375 Ruger in the 358 caliber. Think it would be a great cartridge to work with and get rid of the belt..

I am thinking too limited of a clientele for those proprietary jobs. That is the main reason. Companies rather sell in bulk.

Look at the 375.

375 Taylor 375 H&H 375 Ruger 375 Dakota 375 RUM 375 Lazzeronni 378 WBY Can you think anything that can not be covered by these?
It does sound fun though! :!:

Nicely played Sir!

Now I will NEVER forgive myself!!!!!!

Personally, given the dimensions of the .375 Ruger case, I don't think it lends itself to wildcatting to smaller calibers below .338 or 8mm. A .30 might be okay but nothing smaller. JMHO

I'm with you. A 7mm Ruger Mag would be da bomb, IMHO. Very near RUM numbers in a standard-length action.

Whats not to love there??

I bet Ruger would even step up to a 21" barrel for that one.

The days of mass innovation by the manufactures is done for a while. The home-controlled feeder is the priority of the day, hehe.

375 Ruger wildcats! Oh my! I have started to take more interest in wildcats since getting my 243AI. Necking down the 375 Ruger sounds like it could be fun.

From the little playing around I have done with QL, the 375R necked down to .308", or .338" would basically be the same as a 300 or 340 weatherby. I would be about the same as a 7stw, but with a lot more room in the mag for seating long bullets. But to go from .375 to 7mm is a ton of work.

300 or 340 Bee on a standard action and no belt! I'm going to look at the Pac-Nor and Manson site right now. Thanks Jake!

A 160 gr AB at 3200 fps would be impressive!

A 7-300wm will do it.

I believe Pacific Tool has a .338/375 R reamer. The .338 Campfire I think is what the designer called it. Rick Bin @ 24hrcampfire built it. Has some data about it over there.
