Wifes 7mm-08.

Jmad, I understand not wanting to give up on it.
Alot of problems have been solved with a floated barrel (I assume you have already floated it) some bedding compound, a recoil pad and some varget.

If it did come to another rifle I like Dr Mikes list. I'd add the Tikka Hunter to it. I showed my wife everything on Dr. Mikes list (amazing how great minds think alike), and she decided on the Tikka.

In any event, I'm sure you will come up with a solution that will not land you on the couch.

The Tikkas shoot very well. I have not shot one that didn't shoot sub MOA in any calibre. They are a delight to handle and a joy to shoot.

Looks to be a good day! I'll get some shooting in with it during lunch and keep ya posted. Yes the barrel is floated. When I bed it I will bed out two or three inches from the recoil lug as well to help support it a bit.

Thanks for the list of possable replacements. Wife wants to know if any of them come in pink

Made it to the range last night...

All in all not to bad, these were the best three groups I got out of five. I think bedding it and a better trigger would shrink these pretty good. The trigger on that thing is horrid, even after I adjusted it! I'll play with COAL now that I have a good base to start with. Rifle is at least showing some promis now. I'll put a recoil pad on it for the wifey and see what she says.

Thanks for all your guys input.

In all actuality, I would be happy with 1 MOA from such a light skinny barreled rifle. Those mountain rifles have a tendency to fling the 3rd quite often.

My buddy has one in a 280 rem and has played with it A LOT and still hasn't found a load that will consistently go under 1". His groups look a lot like yours being the first 2 are usually touching or .5" apart, but the 3rd opens it up every time to 1" or closer to 1.5"

I think a lot of it has to do with the skinny whippy barrel, they get warm quickly. Still, even waiting a min or two between shots didn't seem to help much.

I wished I knew something that would make it shoot .5", but I just dont see that happening to often with those light whippy barrels/rifles.

If you think about it, 1.5 MOA is still accurate enough to kill deer out to at least 400 yards, which is about as far as your wife probly wants to be shooting anyways.

yeah I'm happy with it shooting those two groups, would like better but it is what it is. Like Remingtonman said Will kill a deer farther then she will likely shoot.

Get her a PAST recoil pad (the kind she wears on her shoulder) It will make a huge difference in the recoil she feels. I have dealt with recoil induced flinch with my son, and using this , shooting a lot of .22 and practice with reduced loads worked, but the biggest change came when I bought one of these for him.

JDMAG's suggestion made me think (an exercise that is increasingly rare), why not install a Limbsaver pad on the rifle, which would absorb much of the recoil?

WOW I feel like a retard... I HAVE a past recoil pad for shooting the .375 Ruger. A limb saver and the past should do the trick for sure!

I meant to include the installation of a recoil pad also. She should be set to go. A while back I inquired on this forum about a "feminine Elk rifle" for my petite daughter. The 7MM-08 was very highly recomended. Your wife should be well prepaired for just about anything that comes her way. I made up some decent 160 SGK rounds for my daughters the other day.

Yep. I got a recoil pad for the rifle on the way as well.

Thanks for all the help.
