So a shop here has a good supply of win 780, I have the following calibers to load for: 260 rem, 270 win, 270WSM, 7-08. Anyone have any good experience with this powder with one or hopefully several of these calibers? Thanks all, it seems like it will work good with the 260 and 270 calibers. I use 120-130s in the 260 and 130-150 in the 270s.

I've used a fair amount of 780. Unfortunately for your question, I've used more of other powders that work equally well and are more readily available here. However, it is a good powder. It will assuredly work in the .260 Rem., the .270 Win., the 7mm-08 Rem. and the .270 WSM; you will get higher velocities out of other powders, but it will give good case fill and good velocities. It could be a viable option for someone loading those particular cartridges.

I would probably prefer IMR 7828 SSC over Winchester Supreme 780--slightly higher velocities and good case fill.

Both powders are good. 780 works very well in the 243 so it should also give good results in other 308 based cases. 7828 is between 4350 and 4831 in some cases.

It is on the list from Hodgdon to be discontinued by the end of 2014, so if you like it stock up.

Really?
Where is a list like this found?

780 works well with the 270 Win. I used about 55gn or so with 130gn bullets, but I'm not sure. I know the velocities were consistent on the chronograph.

Re17 would likely be a better "do it all" for the cartridges listed. This coming from a guy that loves 7828ssc...just in other cases!

Which one is being discontinued? W80 of 7828ssc? based on Winchester's past history with slow burners my guess would be the 780. I've only used the 7828ssc in my .280 Remingtin and reached the Nosler top load for the 150 gr. AB shooting the 150 gr. ABLR for a chronographed 3010 FPS Got to tweak the seating depth to see if I can improve accuracy.
The only reason I can see on Winchester dropping WMR a few years back is it didn't work in the 30-06. Extremely erratic and a friend and I discovered. I use it in the .270 Win. and .300 Win. mag. and it makes those two cartridges sing. Not bad in the .280 Rem. as well. But in the good old 06, poor accuracy and erratic pressures egardless of whether I used a regular or magnum primer. I once asked Winchester a question for use in another cartridge and got a very snotty, "WMR was discontinued 10 years ago and no data was retained." Note to Winchester: (Expletives deleted)! :x

Thanks all, kraky I would love some R17, but I'm finding zero alliant powders, my buddy has 18 lbs but won't share. What friend huh!

I have heard rumors about SR4756, SR4759, PB and SR7625 being discontinued NOT IMR7828. Will contact Hodgden/IMR on Monday to find out what the truth really is.

IMHO, 4756 is a really good powder for the .40 S&W. It is clean, slower burning and gives 1200 fps to the 150 gr bullets with mild recoil and no smoke.

Nobody said anything about IMR 7828/SSC being discontinued. The thread was about Winchester 780 initially, and that was commented on being discontinued. Add IMR 4007SSC to the list also.
