Took a walk down to the pond behind the pole barn with the Beretta Silver Pigeon with holes of getting some Wood ducks. Unfortunately the Wood ducks didn't cooperate. Will try again as they have been here all spring and summer.

It seems to me that wood ducks can read calendars and know when the hunting season opens. They seem to leave our area just days before the season opens.

Same here Dan!
The good news is that they are on the pond this morning.

We don't see many of them, though there is a nest box, occupied year after year, in a state park at the north end of town. I've yet to get a good photo of them.

Dad had a membership in a duck club in northern California when I was a teenager. It was bordered by a small creek with a lot of cottonwoods growing on the banks. We'd walk that once in a while for the wood-duck shooting. Dad was pretty good with his shotgun and bagged a limit of ducks there once, ALL wood ducks! I surely wish one of us had a camera with us that day. :)

Best of luck with your wood ducks.

That's been our goal. Last night I sat with my wife in my deer blind and had a bobcat come in to 35'.
Pretty cool.

Wood Ducks I have been lucky to have shot two Banded Wood Ducks in Iowa one by the Missouri River in Iowa and another on the Mississippi River about 300 miles apart. Iowa has a lot of Wood Ducks.
