Wyoming moose

Best of luck!

I keep hoping to draw that Washington moose tag... Not likely, but possible. Heck, I might be older than Dr. Mike before I draw!

And that would be hard to take! Fortunately, they do make walkers that will let you move.

These moose tags are a bit of mystery to me and how they get drawn????? There are familys here in this little town that have put in for years and NEVER have drawn and there are other familys that have had 1-4 people draw in a single season and have been drawn over and over as the years go by?????? I would call the system very unfair to say the least!
It is intersting that for a non resident to draw his chances are 6 times greater than if you are a resident as there are soooooo many more residents trying to get the permits.

Well, hopefully the moose God's shine on me with the draw. I know I could use the steaks and roasts!

Arh the old "Moose Gods"..................... now thats an interesting group! How many times have they had me out in some god forsaken bog, chasing around the elusive swamp donkeys !!!!

I think we'd make an okay time of it no matter where we found them!

Man, if outsiders have the better chance of being drawn, I should put in just to say I've hunted Maine!

I guess that I am really blessed here in Saskatchewan a I can hunt open bull moose or first year calf every year. We also have a residence draw system and I usually get to pull a tag about every 4 years.
Now I still have not shot a bull but our group gets at least one every year  so I do know what they looked like. I know one of these times it is going to be my turn and a bull will be down.
One of the previous posts mentioned calibre :) you really don't need to worry about the size of the calibre as Moose tend to go down very easily. I know a number of people that use 243s or 257Bobs with great success  after they are hit just give them a little time and they will lay down and stiffen up for you.

Blessings,
Dan

Dan.
Concerning the 243 on moose having tiped a few of them over in the past with that caliber I can tell you for sure that a bull moose of ANY size struck right in the side of the head with a regular old Remington Corelokt 100 grain factory load will be laying in the four tracks he was standing in , and upon closer examination you will find the skull to be broken into cracked pieces with both horns loose to the point you can almost get them to touch togeather ............... there will be no waiting or tracking involved whatso ever.
I am not advocating the 243 for moose hunting just relating some experences I have observed when stuck with one in the side of the head....................... :p

and a Wyoming cabin to stay in!

The nicest hunting lodge I have ever stayed in too.
And the food........the finest Geek cuisine one could ever ask for.

I will agree whole heartily that there are many calibres better than a 243 win. But if you hit most other animals with that calibre & not perfectly you are going to have to do some tracking. Moose I have hunted seem to want to lay down right away.
Just making conversation cause we all know that you should always hunt Moose with a 35 Whelen
PS. Is that lodge in Wyoming open to Canadians

Blessings,
Dan

Gosh if we could only draw some Moose permits here. We are loaded with them and there are so many nice big bulls around Maine has to be one of the best "sleeper" spots left to shoot really large racked bulls. We had a fella a few years ago that told me he had spent $30,000 running to Newfoundland and Ontario over the previous 6 years trying to shoot a really good bull.
He got that accomplished here in two days and shot his personal best. NE Maine and W New Brunswick seams to harbor some of the nicest racks on both the Whitetails and Moose so not sure if its the ground or just the genetics ?????

Earl, I would much rather be a guide in Maine, where I was raised, than be an attorney in Connecticut. Just my $.02.

I hear ya on the 35 WoWlen...................... it is about the perfect blend for Mr Moosie........
And I think your right Charlie ............ this bragggin gets old in a hurry. I am all for someone doing well in life and we guide plenty of them and basically make a living off them , and the truth of it is some of these guys with the most denro dress and act like they are just regular guys and NEVER brag about all the stuff they own.
