XD .40 Question

I have a XD .40 that I had sent through the custom shop several years ago (happy 21st birthday to me) that I am having an issue with. The slide doesn't always return all the way forwards. Sometimes it hangs up 1/4" back. I have checked everything out and cleaned the crap out of it so I know that it is not gunk that is holding it up.

Do the slide springs wear out? I see that midway has a bunch of different weights of springs to replace the stock one. What weight would you guys reccomend replacing it with?

Thanks,

Jake

I believe they have a 17# spring in them. I have a Tactical which runs pretty good with that with factory loads. When I shoot a lighter load, I change springs down a little. A new spring won't hurt and could very much be the cause of what you describe. Stove pipes, poor ejection and jams are an indicator as the spring gets fatigued. If i'm shooting alot, I change them twice a year. I've used Wolff springs in most of my handguns.
Good luck

Thanks! The only problem I have is the slide not returning all the way. Other than that it feeds fine.

Jake,

How many rounds have you put through it? Glock recommends changing the recoil spring every 3000 rounds. Both are similar pistols and hopefully a cheap fix.

I'm not sure how many rounds I have down it? I doubt its 3,000 yet.

Replace the springs. I have Wolf springs in my Kimber.

Jake I have both an XD40 4" and a sub-compact XD-40 and have not had issues with either one, but I have not owned them nearly as long as you have. I think the guys gave you good advise and is something that is really simple to fix and you should be good to go. Of course if that does not fix your problem then you have other issues, but I think they are spot on and it should get you shooting again. They are some smart fella's, but don't tell them I said that!

P.S. I do love those XD's and think they are a great pistol.

Wolf is the way to go. Their website will tell you what is OEM and what is not

Thanks guys I'll check it out.

David, this is a 5" tactical modle, and after haveing it tuned up in the custom shop it is really a joy to shoot! Light trigger, extended mag release, fiber sights, and match barrel. Shoots really well!

It sounds really nice Jake. Let us know when you get sprung again how it works then!
