They are curious creatures! I walked up on yearling twin Shiras, south of Jackson WY one year. They were standing on a bench, on top in the sagebrush flats eating some willow buds. I was curious as to how close I could get by just easing up on them, without looking directly at them. I got up to about 10 yards where I am sure they could smell me but not knowing what I was, they stood their ground until I talked to them. They both stared at me for a few more seconds, after I spoke and ambled away up and over the bench into a small wooded valley, where they could not smell or see me.
