Much like Pop's load, but I usually use 8 grains of Unique. It's an old revolver and I don't want to beat it up. It was Grandpa's gun:
Years ago I bought 500 soft-swaged 230 grain round nose bullets with a slightly hollow/concave base. Alberts was the company, don't know if they're in business anymore. Those things shot incredibly accurately from the old Colt. Anymore I'll either use locally cast 250's or Speer 250 gr semi-wadcutters. Yeah, I hold the power/velocity level down on the old beast.
For Dad's Blackhawk I've loaded considerably hotter... That's fun too!
For plinking and target work 9 grs Unique with 250 cast SWC is really accurate in my Ruger BH.
For serious RUGER BH ONLY loads with cast 250 gr SWC I use 20.5 grs WW-296/H-110 with CCI 350 mag primers.
For serious RUGER BH ONLY loads with Hornady 250 gr XTP HP jacketed bullets I use 26.0 grs WW296/H110 with CCI 350 primers.
WW296 and H-110 are the same powders by the way.
I will suggest that with the HEAVY loads that you get a Hogue mono grip for your Ruger BH. It really helps tame the heavy recoil of the pistol flipping back on the web of your hand with the stock grips and turns it into a pussy cat for shooting.
