Hoping one of the boys or my daughter will get the urge to hunt. Wanting to have a pair of rifles for them. Trying to decide between 6.5 Swede vs 7x57 Mauser.

The rifle options are
1. Tikka T3 in 6.5 Swede
2. Winchester M$0 Featherweight in 7x57

Not really sure ballstically much different but I like the Swedes.

Could keep all but not sure I need the safe that full.

Thoughts?

I'd like to play with both chamberings, but I would prefer the M70 rifle...

Two fine cartridges and two fine rifles. I'm partial to the 7X57 and the Model 70. Mine shoots very fine groups, which put a smile on my face each time I pull the trigger.

You'd be hard pressed to beat either rifle for a kid or adult. I love the 7x57 and would lean that way for another reason. It may be easier to find a second stock to cut down for the model 70, in case they need to grow into it.

Both are pretty darn nice, cartridge and rifle! Keep them both and let them gravitate towards the one that seems to fit them and feels right.

My son runs a 7x57 Mauser in a Fwt and it is a tack driver. I love that rifle. Everytime I fire it I wanna get another one. I like the 6.5 Swede a bunch as well, but I love the Model 70 platform. Good luck deciding, I still haven't sorted out a rifle for my daughter yet!

I would lean towards the M70 7x57 but the 6.5 Swede is pretty cool.

I have the M70 FWT, the PF version in 7x57. It is definitely not for sale. Nuff said?

Well, with a 6.5 and a 7mm you're right on track. Those are easy-shooting, well proven cartridges.

Buy the rifle you prefer, or that you think your son/daughter would prefer... I like the Winchester better, but Tikka makes a very good, accurate rifle.

Started out my youngest with a 6mm Rem 700 I put in a youth stock.

Started out my oldest with a .308 Win Browning BLR and mild handloads.

Both sons learned to shoot well easily enough, and first went through about a gazillion .22 rounds!

Thanks for all the ideas. I think just keep all 4 rifles and sort it out later. I don't think they will depreciate in the safe and I can probably have fun shooting them occassionally myself.
