That Was One Fat Bear!

This was in my morning read. A bow hunter in NJ tagged a 770 lb black bear. And the weight was determined after he had gutted the animal! Now, that was one fat bear!

They claim that the estimated live weight was 900lbs. That has to be the heaviest black bear that I've ever heard of. PA records a 600-700lb bear every now and then but 900lbs is unheard of. I believe that the bear was living behind the Crispy Cream plant. LOL

My best friend is a NJ police officer and lives in Kinnelon the bear was shot less then 150yds from his house. He’s seen the bear on multiple occasions in his yard

I’ll see if I can get the video but a few years ago we had a 550lb run through my yard right next to my house.

What a tank! Congratulations to the Hunter. With The size bear I kill, to weigh out 770 lbs of bear, mine would have to have 2 more piggy backing.

Even counting grizzly/browns 900 pound bears are rare. Kinda like 30 inch mule deer.

that was a few years ago maybe 3-4 but somebody shot it in the next town during bear season that same year

I'm a retired Deputy Game Warden here in PA. I've had the honor to handle some 700 to 800lb. bears that were under the influence of Ketamine. We would have to trap and relocate bear every year because of bear/ human interaction. I can tell you one thing, a live bear of this size is VERY impressive! The drugs we used are paralytics, the bear are awake. They can't move the major muscle groups except the diaphragm. However, their eyes can follow you! It's kind of a uncomfortable position to be in. Not for the bear, but for the puny humans. They are magnificent animals especially at that size and being awake as you handle them.
