Completed transition from Alliant to Hodgdon...

Any recommendations for a VV powder that would work well in the .264 WM? Retumbo is getting harder to find and the price is becoming outrageous ($100/lb)

I am getting good results with N560 in my 280AI and 7mm Rem Mag. you might want a slightly slower powder for your .264 WM. VV has a cluster of powders that seem right for over bore cartridges.

For my 375 H&H and 404 Jeffery I have been using N150. These powders give consistent results and are easy to handle while reloading.

I made the transition to shoot Hodgdon in everything years ago. Have a good amount of Benchmark, H4350, H4831, H1000, and H110. Pretty much covers everything a guy could want or need right there.

I did go to VV N540 for my 223 with 75-80s only because H4895/Varget was impossible to find for years. It's been a great powder so far giving good accuracy and great velocity. Plus it's relatively cheap and been available.

Sitting on 3# of RL17 foe the wife's 7/08. As much as that rifle gets shot, it'll last a good while. When it runs out, H4350 will fill the role.

Any one between N560 - N570 should yield the results you’re looking for.
and if wanting more case fill try the 555, 565 and 568's. 568 gets close to 570 velocities, but requires 2-4grs extra.

that being said, i'm waiting to get the 32" 7.5t 264wm up and running (build not completed yet). plans are for 150smk's w/570. velocities could exceed 3,250 and closer to 3,350. with boat-tail in the shoulder the coal is around 3.500" so plenty of room with the cip mags or the (?) brand @ 3.715"

Twenty years ago I had a Hart barreled Wby. Vanguard 7mm08 that loved RL-15 with any 140 bullet! Which surprisingly is still available even today at Powder Valley, etc.

I made this move a couple years ago. So far it was the right move. My motivation at the time was to consolidate to fewer powders that worked in more cartridges! I know there are some powders for every caliber that work best, BUT, I know of no other powders that work as well in more cartridges than H4350, H4831 and Varget. I still will keep Ni33 and N135 around for smaller calibers.

I have some jugs of other powders still in use for some cartridges that I use little of. But going foreward, if I add N133 to the mix of Varget, H4350, and H4831, I can think of little that any other powder could do in the way of accuracy, and "good speed". I don't and have no use for magnums, or the new fads that replace older more proven cartridges, and when I say good speed,,,, 50 or 100 fps more to me is meaningless!

I have proven over and over to others 50 fps is invisible in speed out to 500 yards, and for most 1000! I say this because off a bench the difference in ballistics isn't really measurable out to 500 yards on paper from a bench. Even 100fps is hard to see any difference in, with any caliber without a chronograph. I don't think most game will know the difference in 100 fps either, from the difference at reasonable range. That would be the distance most have any responsible shot at in field conditions!

But in my 223, 6x47 Lapua, 6BR, 222, 17 Mach IV, 257 AI and 338/06 AI, have proven this like I said, more than once to those who would take the time to test. Yes I am lucky enough to owen more than one or two rifles to hunt with, and this gives me an advantage making this decision when I did. But those powders cover even the 338 mag, 300 win mag, and 22/250 AI used to use. If I owned a larger over bore magnum case that needed slower powder for anything else, I do have a jug of IMR7828 on the shelf that would make all but the most OVER BORE cartridges happy!

Blaze away folks, but remember, I have tested the 50 to 100 fps claims more than once! The difference is only visible on a chono readout!

But these powders sure make load development easier, and my loading room shelves more orderly (efficient).

You need to tell Powder Valley that, evidently they don't know that, as it is listed as out of stock, and has for some time!
