I have been shooting a new bonded tipped bullet in my 15.75" center-grip 308 Winchester, XP-100 for a upcoming antelope hunt.
Speer of all things...172 grain Impact bullet.
With a chosen load and seated deep I still shot around half MOA off of a Harris bipod and small field bag, and it shot great out to 500 yards today.
Velocity was around 2414 fps.
I think once I get serious loading for it I would expect 1/3 MOA or maybe a tad better, but I am happy with half MOA for my purposes
Then before we left, we had loaded with Varget in 3/10's grain increment at 25 thou off of the lands, and kept hitting the 10" steel at 500 yards, but having to remove more MOA, as I went.
Ran the MV up to 2555 fps. No sticky ejection, no indention's on brass, but primers were flattened some.
They make a couple more of these, including a 140 .264, but it unavailable currently
From their website below:
"The Speer® Impact bullet blends tough, molecularly bonded construction with a high ballistic coefficient. Its groundbreaking Slipstream™ polymer tip provides a perfect aerodynamic meplat, and its hollow core initiates expansion at velocities 200 fps lower than comparable designs. The combination results in deep penetration at mid-range, as well as extreme accuracy and consistent low-velocity expansion at long distances."

2555 is pretty stout for 16” barrel with 172 grs.
Ernie it just amazes me your level of accuracy with those pistols. I’m happy if I can hold 1 MOA with either of mine.
Come for a visit, and maybe we can work out some bugs

I believe the tipped Impact component bullet is the tipped Fusion loaded in the Federal ammo.
Haven't seen any to try in any of my rifles yet...
That would be interesting to know confirmation on-If someone here knows, I would like to know.

I compared bullet weights and BC's from what list listed on Speer's page versus Federal and they don't match up, so my guess at this time would be that the fusion bullets are different, from what Speer lists on their site.

Nice to see they're shooting well for you. They did great in my 6.5 PRC in my Tikka, quite accurate. Shot a doe with one & she dropped on the spot. Nice exit but not a far shot. Can't remember MV but I think only mid to low 2800's.

Any way to verify this? Those tipped Fusion bullets are phenomenal for accuracy in a factory box. I love them! If this is that bullet, I'm about to buy a few boxes for each caliber I use on a regular basis haha.

I guess I should have read further before replying

That is good to know.

Yes, I see that now; .526 vs .529...in a 140 gr .264" bullet, and they have a different tip (Slipstream vs polymer tip).
At first glance, I was thinking that Speer had tipped the Deep Curl bullet to make the Impact bullet, and changed the tip colour to distinguish it from the Tipped Fusion. (The Deep Curl being the bullet Federal calls Fusion in the ammunition line, as both are/were owned by the same company (ATK if memory serves), back when these first came out.)

Ernie- Good luck with the Pronhorn hunt! As a personal favor, please stop posting those one hole group pictures.... There arent enough sand bags to get me shooting like that with my rifles.... its depressing... ;):). (kidding- Nice work! & Good Luck! CL )

It was my day to look good-I take them when I get them.
