I'm on the other side of 65 too, and slower on the slopes than I was hunting Colorado years ago. Now I pay more attention to setting up the hunt to cater to my strengths, and hunting with some younger guys who like to prove how strong they they are, and finding some private ground to hunt.

Up until recent bullet technology the .270 Win was generally labeled too light for elk, especially with 130 gr bullets. As the wonder bullets got into the field and usage data came back, conventional wisdom matured (as it were) the the .270 Win with 150 gr is generally blessed now.

The barrel twist is 1 turn in 20" and it is cut-rifled. ID is .451 and the grooves are 35 thou deep. I will have to measure the barrel when it arrives...jim
