    Idaho Wolf

In 1999 or 2000, my dad, younger brother and I were loggin in MB. It was snowing quite heavily and we were just starting into a differnt stand of timber on the same quarter section of land, so we took the first pull of trees we had felled and limbed and went back to the landing 150-200yds away...

    Couple coyotes over the weekend

I thought I hit him square, but only caught about a third of the spine and had about a 2.5" wound and massive spinal damage internally from bone sharpnel. Found that out when I pelted it. It's been about 10 years since I pelted anything. This is one of the first I haven't caught with a deer...

    Couple coyotes over the weekend

Shot this, yote after work today. There were several of them running around for a few weeks, but they overstayed their welcome coming in the yard and very close to the cattle. I missed a few shots trying to shoot around buildings and equipment, but managed to stay upwind and get into a shooting...

    44 magnum lever action rifle

I used to shoot 240 grn Nosler JHP's out of a Henry Big Boy. Load was 23.5 grns of H110 in R-P brass and a winchester primer. I seem to recall those chronying ar 1560-1580FPS?? Real hard on porcupines and skunks, usually left a canadian $2 coin or half dollar sized exit hole that tapered down...

That is true. I guess i'll just have to leave a nicely stocked vault and maybe a couple special ones. If my wife asks, "it's for the kids"!!  JT.

    Rifles for heirlooms.

Would anybody else consider buying a fine rifle or two to keep for their son(s)? I have been thinking of buying something in good to very good shape that is semi rare and unique to present to my son as an heirloom. Hopefully, long after he comes of age. Those sort of rifles are not johnies...

    Rifle builds gone wrong

Barrel not over 26", that is defintely a concern. My 264 is WAY too long. Since it won't go fast anyway, I really ought to cut it down to 26" and have a recessed target crown cut. I would trade that 264 for a stock SS Rem 700V 243 in a heartbeat, lol. However, I'm still debating just using my...

    Rifle builds gone wrong

Anybody here every build a custom and then not like the result?? I have a 31" barreled, 264 Win Mag that I wanted to get lots of velocity out of and instead got an extremely accurate rifle that shoots 70 FPS faster than a 6.5/284 while using twice the powder. I'm still not sure if I should be...

    Remington SPS or Weatherby Vanguard

Go Rem if you want to play with and lose money on your guns, it's lots of fun, just don't sell them after. Customs are usually only exactly what their creator wanted, not neccessarily what everybody wants. Return on investment is 50% of whatever parts you buy and usually none of the smith...

    Remington SPS or Weatherby Vanguard

I'd have to say each gun has it's merit, so it really depends on how much you play with and customize your rifles. Between an SPS synthetic/blued & a Syn/blued vanguard without changing anything I'd go for the vanguard. I will agree that my vanguard trigger has alot of creep, it was bought in 08...

    Mixing Handgun Brass

I am a mite careless I guess. I drop everything into the case collator on my lee pro 1000 and let the sizing die figure out what has crimped primers. Those would be the ones you can barely get the primer out of.... Those go into a can off to the side and I reload slowly for a progressive loader...

    Rifle Projects Planned?

OK, since I can't find a donor and the smith has time. My VTR 223 is going to the smith. Getting the action trued & then rechambering to 223 AI. I already have a set of Redding dies on the bench. Now to find some good loads for a 223 AI, if anybody has some?? The 22-250 AI is still playing...

    Rifle Projects Planned?

Planning a new 243 AI this year, but am having a heck of a time finding a donor action. Plan is a lilja or hart 28" barrel, 1-9.5 or 10 3 groove, SS barrel. Rem Varmint contour, bed into a B&C A5 or 3(depending on availible funds) and hopefully find some nice glass for it. Planning on running...

    Another Range-Rat Know-It-All

I can't say I've heard alot of wildly inaccurate thigns at the range locally in recent memory, at some of the shops in the city you hear various opinions. Some insightful, some that really make me chuckle. The Bonnyville range is really good, but has a relatively small membership. Most week...

Need some help turning case necks.

If I jump the Berger VLD 0.1-0.2" it can shoot .2-3 MOA @ 3040FPS Charge is 77 grn of WC 860. If I leave them closer to the lands and try to get 78 grain it makes the bolt tight and is overlaoded as far as I am concerned. JT

Need some help turning case necks.

0.001-0.0015, that is exactly what it ended up being. The barrel was chambered with a "turn" reamer not a no turn. It shoots pretty good, but is a bit of a bother to case prep for. My only issue with it is I have 1-8.5 twist and can't seem to get over 3050FPS with 140 grn Bergers or SMK's. JT.

Coakley Concedes to Brown in Mass.

Brought a smile to me here too. Long live Freedom & America!! I can't say I love some of the multi billion dollar american companies we have to compete with here in the oil patch. However as countries, we've been likeminded neighbours that have coexisted peacefully since the end of War of...
