    Weird question...maybe

I suppose it could be possible. I have loaded since 1953 but I have never loaded shot in a rifle cartridge. If it were the only gun he had and the backstop was questionable.

    Barrel Life

I have both the 300 H&H and two WSM's. The 300 can't even headspace on its meager 8 degree shoulder after fireforming and therefore it has poor case life. The WSM's are a much better design and fit in smaller rifles also. I like that too.

    Questions before making the calls.

Can you explain why you kept that barrel? It will not shoot your favorite lighter 140 gr hunting load now and you must shoot 175's?

I have never heard of the brand. Where are they made? You might post your question on "Longrangehunting"

    6.5-280AI Questions

Welcome to the forum. I question that the headspace would be right? If the formed case is too big at all then its shoulder may need to be pushed back by the FL die. To be frank I would look at the 6.5-284 as its so much more popular. http://www.6mmbr.com/sixfive284.html

Craig Sylvestor's 2008 Utah bull taken at 851 yds

I agree with the above. The shooter 'dialed in' 11.75 minutes of elevation but no windage with a 20 to 30 mph cross wind? Using http://www.eskimo.com/~jbm/calculations ... tions.html The windage for the load listed at 760 yards where the shooting started is 103" or about 9 feet. 'Dial in'...

.264 win mag vs. 257 weatherby mag

laker, The design of the Weatherby cartridges do not please me. I don't like the freebore that they have, the double radius shoulder and the brand in general. The twist of the 257W. is not as fast as the 264W and it will never shoot bullets that have as good ballistic properties as the 6.5...

    Long range 7mm rem mag

Adam454, The rifle is far more important than the cartridge for the kind of shooting your trying. Thus the 7mm RM or a similar round will do fine. As mentioned some of the target bullets have more potential BC and accuracy wise since your not shooting at game.

    Another Drop tube question

Things vary such as test temperatures which may affect velocity and certainly powder lots. I buy RL 22 10 lbs at a time and make sure the two 5 lb bottles are the same lot. I see the Nosler manual shows RL 22 with that 63 gr load at 3000 fps. Good luck with it. Don't sweat the details.

kiddekop, Did you get to see inside his barrel? As a competitor as well I can say that we kid around. Some of the banter is misleading.

    First buck for my Boy!

POP, Congratulations to your son and of course to yourself. The success you both enjoyed and your efforts getting your son there are most impressive. When I was a kid (over 50 years ago) I shot my first buck with a .222 Rem. The next year I shot a buck in the chest with it, a standing shot...

    Silencer on your hunting rifle.

I found out that: It's illegal to use a silencer on any firearm while hunting (CGS § 26-75) Thats from the CT general statues.

    Silencer on your hunting rifle.

I met a club member at the range who had a silencer on a .308 tactical size rifle. He was going to use it for coyote hunting in CT in a settled area. Of course he knows the noise will be low and allow him the close in hunting. What do you think of this? 1. Will this get me 'looked at' by...

    Alaska rifle choice

My vote would be for a .375 H&H as the first choice and a .338 WM second. Besides being right for the job those rounds and in particular the 375 will make for a much better story as the years go by.

    What would cause this?

My guess is that the brass used to make those cases had laminations in the metal. From my experience with deep draw metals defective metal and in particular laminations are all too common.

    Primer Question

You asked a good question and welcome to the forum by the way. I too would be interested in seeing such data. If I had to guess I would select the Federal 215 M but there is nothing like the facts. I found this from http://www.chuckhawks.com/primers.htm

Help .358 Win in Savage 99!

taylorforce1, While I have two 99F's in .358 Win I don't shoot the heavier bullets much. For the most part I load the 180 Speer for deer and black bear and that bullet is quite accurate for me using IMR 3031 and RL 10. For elk they say to use heavier bullets. Check that the butt stock screw...

which scope for people with glasses

hardpan, Just go to a store that sells them and try them out. Most have rubber eyecups these days which fold down for those who use glasses. The rubber is easier on your glasses lens.
