I'm still wondering about the bullet performance. On one hand I'm really impressed it went , Basically , the length of the deer. On the other hand the only thing it hit that was really hard was the scapula , it wasn't broken just had a 1in. or so hole thru it, yet the pedals were all broke off...
First of all, thanks to all for the kind comments he's a great buck and I feel lucky and humbled to have taken him.
Guy,
I was dumbfounded I had somehow flubbed the shot. Like most guys on this forum I shoot a lot and really work at longer range . I really don't consider 250 all that far, its a...
My friend was ranging for me he called 250 and I shot the first shot. I heard him call a few more ranges but the last I heard was 382 at which time he was running pretty much broadside and I tried a shot . There was a loud crack he was instantly gone into a draw. The first thing I did was ask my...
Great choice he'll love it, 7mm-08 is my go to recommendation for a 1st/ woman's /son or daughters gun. That caliber kills way better that it should and can be used on anything in the lower 48 and probably most anything else too. My friends wife has one and shes a killing machine with it ...
Shot this nice buck a few weeks ago with a 257 Weatherby Vanguard series 2 and a hand loaded 100 gr. TTSX .I have never chrono'd this load but I suspect it's in the 3450 fps range and very accurate .Shot was 250 yards quartering to me. I hit him angling in through the scapula , through the...
A few years ago I shared a deer camp with a guy that owned a really high end elk outfit. I don't recall his name or the the name of he's outfit , I asked the price of a hunt and after hearing that there was no need to remember it. He had seen a lot of elk shot over the years , so naturally I...
I had a friend that had a Savage 270 WSM just after the 270 WSM was released . From day one exhibited pressure with Factory loads and handloads , even starting loads . He sent it back to Savage they claimed rough chamber and returned it . Same thing , pressure. While trying 130 gr. TSX I tried...
Hey WisconsinTeacher, I had the same issues a few years ago always left me scratching my head. I would add that there would be times I shot a really good group with a particular load but when I loaded it again sometimes it didn't shoot as good. Turned out to be a concentricity issue. I tried...
I never Measured it , but it was 74" from the tip of his nose to the base of his tail and if I remember right 54" around his chest behind the front legs. He's everything you want in a bear Long , tall , thick with a really big head.
I took this Bear a few weeks ago in Saskatchewan at 454 lbs. he's my best to date. Shot was 35 yards, he was walking toward me when he turned and looked hard to his right . Bullet hit right where the neck and shoulder come together. he dropped and never twitched after about 20 seconds I saw...
I was at Jays in Gaylord yesterday and they had this gem. Savage 110 300 Win Mag. story goes the first shot was a squib . The bullet was left lodged in the barrel near the end and the 2nd shot was about what you might expect. The shooter was not hurt and the action still works . Pretty amazing.
Gerry , he did go down hard , the rifle cracked he went down and I never saw him twitch or heard him make a sound he was out before he hit the ground very impressive.
Shot this bear last week with my 375 Ruger and a 260 Gr. Accubond bullet. Range was 35 yards quartering towards me. Hit it between shoulder and neck down thru the lungs , liver and out just ahead of the hip. The bullet was wadded up in the hide and fell out as we skinned it. it weighed 166 gr...
Earlier this year I bumped into a beautiful 375 Ruger RH Laminate/SS 23" barrel . The fit and finish on the gun was very impressive and the gun is tremendously accurate . 270 Hornady and 260 Accubonds under 1" @ 100 yards. At the time I got it I really wanted a Alaskan SS 20" barrel . Fast...
