2 in 1 out???

I have shot the same identical group from about every rifle I have ever owned. Two in a small group and third about an inch or so low and left. It happens repeatedly across a broad spectrum of powder, bullets, and caliber. No doubt in my mind where the harmonics are off. I've got to hit that node just right between my trigger finger and my brain. Most frustrating.

Precision Shooter (I miss that magazine! It was fascinating) ran a story once that group size would get bigger through about 20 shots, then would be steady state. A 20-shot group--not many shooters at the range with those...

Maybe these two pictures will help. The bottom pic is the same target as the top and you can see the original group in the top picture at 12 o'clock, there are 18 shoots on that target and as I shot (all the same load same load and bullet ) I watched the shape of the group change or blossom some times it looked very ugly. This was done out of curiosity to see what would happen and how consistent the rifle and load was.

Great illustration, thanks for posting!

I would have extreme confidence in the rifle's ability based on the group at the top! That's a darn good 18 shots.

Hey WisconsinTeacher, I had the same issues a few years ago always left me scratching my head. I would add that there would be times I shot a really good group with a particular load but when I loaded it again sometimes it didn't shoot as good. Turned out to be a concentricity issue. I tried the Hornady tool which didn't work for me because is it based on the assumption the case and the head run together . None of the brass I have did. I now use a tool called a Truangle it solved all my issues . If I get a flyer now its on me or something with the gun . I load my ammo then straighten the neck I can usually get them under .003 T.I.R. That makes a huge difference down range. I've found if I'm getting a 1" group with the <.003 run out . The ones that are out .005 - .01 which is common if your not using bushing dies those groups would open to 1.5"+ . the ones that ran over .01 would be in the 2"+ range. So if you shoot a couple that are running out <.005 there close then you launch a turd that's running out .015 now you have 2 close and one 2" away. Its made the biggest accuracy difference of anything I've tried. Hope this helps.
