I've had issues with the 200 gr. AB. The folks at Nosler are sending a box of 180's to try. I hope I can get the same results others have experienced. As soon as I can, I'll work up the loads and get to the range. My rifle seems to like the 165/IMR4350 combination and the 180 ?RE19.
Thanks! I am getting a REAL rest to use at the range so my 300 yard groups should tighten up a bit. I am using a stack of sandbags that aren't the best rest for testing (that's my alibi and I'm sticking to it!)
Nice thing about the SST is it's good for all sorts of thin-skinned...
I just tied down a load with Hornady SST 165 grain. My '06 loves that bullet! I used 57.3 grains of IMR 4350, Remington brass, Rem 9 1/2 LR primers, OAL 3.335". I print .25" - .40" at 100 yards and 1.75" at 300 yards. The load chrony'd 2900 fps!. Seating depth is .004 off the lands.
I added a piece of equipment to my rifle and it helped a lot. It compensated for some of my shortcomings and improved accuracy by over 50%! I am referring to Limb Saver's Barrel Deresonator (http://www.limbsaver.com). Some people poo-poo the little gadget. I submit those are the people who...
Thanks for the advice....I found my rifle's sweet spot for the 165 SST's. 57.3 grains of IMR 4350 yielded 2900 fps and .400" group. Unclenick (different site) helped with the calculation.
Old Top - I called Nosler this morning and (in this order) received an honest apology, I was told what happened, how it happened and was told I would receive a replacement BOX of the Accubonds! JD hit it on the head - defects can occur in any process. The mark of a good company is how its...
Nosler hits another home run!!!!!!! I called Nosler this morning and learned there was a breakdown in the manufacturing process and will send a new box of 200 AB's! Thanks foryour replies guys...
Tim
I just finished loading 12 rounds of 200 grain AB's for my .30-06. I reached in the box for rounds #13 and #14 and found two projectiles with a large hollowpoint point with a piece of white polymer inside the cavity. I inspected the rest of the box and found two more bullets with smaller (than...
Hey Old #7....that pic looks suspiciously like my 165's!
I will load the 165's after i tie down the 200AB. I LOVE the 165's performance. I want to see what I can do with a heavier bullet though. I do, however, want to try the 165's at longer ranges just to see how it prints.
Too late....I have more IMR 4350. It hasn't failed me yet. I'll have to look up mins & max, but I hope to start the process by the weekend! Any suggestions for a good starting point? my rifle seems to like max velocities better than mins - gets much better accuracy. Thanks!
Gentlemen: your points are well taken! I get into this annual funk about bullet choices and eventually get hung up on paper numbers. I am too danged analytical for my own good sometimes. I'll go with the 200 AB and see where she goes. I have the utmost confidence in my 200 PT (@ 2448 MV) and...
Big Squeeze.... you mentioned penetration in prior bullet comparisons. I know it looks like I am focusing solely on MV. Perhaps I am. I translate MV with energy. I've ignored penetration. I am confident I can absolutely nail a 165 AB load and get it to 2900 MV. The externals are very impressive...
Thanks! I am not convinced I can get 2600 (accurately) out of a 200. I have a 200 PT and the most accurate load is pushed by 53.2 gr. of IMR 4831. That chrony'd at 2448 fps and printed .250". I might be able to push the 200 AB a little faster. I know I can get 2900 fps out of the 165 and get...
I agree a .300 Magnum would out-perform a .30-06. I have a .30-06 and don't see a purchase in the foreseeable future. So, as for my .30-06, the question remains what to use to push the 200 AB over 2700 fps.
I like the idea of using a 165 AB. I've already got a great load for the 165 Hornady...
True....my 200 gr PT moves at 2450 fps. My thought process is to move the AB a little faster and gain some more downrange energy. I'll see what I can do with the 200 AB and post when I get there. Thanks again. I will probably need some help figuring out velocity as I cannot find much on the RL19...
Big Squeeze - thanks! I have used the chart with other loads. I need to tied down THE load first. I've compared the 180 against the 200 with guessed velocities. I am guessing I can get the 180 to over 2700 fps and the 200 around 2500. At those guessed velocities, the 180 yields higher energy all...
Got it JD - thanks! I notice that RL19 recipe is 60 gr and yields 2800 fps. WOW! I'll see if it gives me the accuracy I want. If not, I'll try 22. Will keep y'all posted
Gentlemen - thanks! I agree accuracy is far more important than velocity. My thoughts about increased velocity is that higher energy would accompany a faster bullet. All I've read about the 180 is that the velocity and energy (with the right powder) will surpass the 200 at practical ranges for...
