Shooting the 100 grain Barnes TTSX over 74.0 grains of H1000, Norma brass, and Federal GM215M primers and 3.180" OAL. The load shoots between .5"-.75" all day long.
This rifle has proven to be really finicky, so I'm sticking with this combo. Shooting a Weatherby Mark V Fibermark, topped...
I shot a 0.38" group with the following load...however, it opened up after that initial grouping. I'm planning to play around with the OAL when I can get some more TTSX's.
180 Grain - Barnes TTSX
90.0 Grains - RL 25
3.555" OAL
Federal Large Rifle Magnum Primers
Remington Brass
Ended up getting out to the range yesterday to shoot the 100 grain Partitions loads. 41.5 Grains of IMR 4350 ended up with the best results at 0.95". OAL was 2.570". Now to fiddle around with it in hopes of shrinking the group. I'm going to try 41.7 grains, per the Sierra manual and see what...
Very nice shooting. The Marlin's seem to be quite the buy. There was a great article in the March 2011 issue of RIFLE that you might want to check out.
Looks awesome...it looks like the scope fits just fine behind the rear site, but were you able to get enough eye relief?
Now I'm looking forward to seeing some targets posted from your load development! Congrats on the rifle.
Congrats on the bruin! Looks like a dandy bear for sure. Are you going to be around next Tuesday? Looks like I'm coming your way. Will bring the 225 grain Accubonds if you still want them.
Yes I am...would love to get the 100 grain Partition to shoot. Just bought the dies and bullets today. Loaded the following:
IMR 4831 - 42.0 grains
IMR 4350 - 41.5 grains
RL 19 - 42.5 grains
RL 22 - 42.5 grains
Now to hit the woods and test them out, in between rain showers, this weekend!
Sounds like some great calibers and nice loads. I'm hoping to get out this weekend and try 4 different loads for the .243 and the 100 grain Partition. Loaded IMR 4831, IMR 4350, RL 19 and RL 22...we'll see what happens.
I'd like to hear your range report when you have a chance to shoot those 85 grainers. I'm torn between the 85, 95 and 100 grain Partitions, although I'm leaning towards the 100 grainers.
Ended up getting to shoot a couple different factory loads in the A-Bolt this week. The Core-Lokt's were horrible at over 2" at 100 yards, while the Power Shoks shot around 3/4" - both were 100 grain bullets. Since the gun hasn't been broken in yet, and has had fewer than 20 rounds through it...
Darn nice rifle...and stainless too! Have you heard why Weatherby discontinued their stainless Mark V's? It's always baffled me. If I had it to do over again, I probably wouldn't have purchased a .257 WBY and would have gone with the .270 WBY. Great cartridge, especially for windy Wyoming!
