Wisconsin,
Check with an REI Store if one is in your area. I have rented camping equipment from them in the past while living in Colorado. It may be helpful rather than purchasing all the items needed.
I have experienced the truck camp method and have packed in with horses too.
Both methods...
Many years ago I remember some older hunters using the 30-40 Craig. It killed deer pretty well.
For me the 264 win mag, 25-06, 270, 280, 7mm Mag,30-06, 35 Whelen and any 300 magnum will kill anything on the planet given the proper bullet and if the shot placement matches up. FWIW I've killed a...
I was interested initially on this offering from Hornady thinking it would be good with my 300 RUM.
But holy cow that cut away pic reveals alot about the bullet. The jacket is really thin. I agree that the Ballistic Tip is a dead ringer and or the ABLR compared to the ELD-X. My nephew killed a...
I'm on my 2nd F1 shot and killed the 1st one with a direct heart shot 35 Whelen 225 AB
Typically I set my F1 at 15 ft from muzzle for all my guns can't see that there is much difference in velocity from 12-15 ft.
As stated earlier I too turn down the scope power to ensure alignment...
Any you Whelen boys ever clock good old Remington Factory ammo, 35 Whelen loaded with 200 Core loks in a 22" barrel? My Dad used to shoot those, killed deer pretty good too. Just curious what speed they are going.
Don
Jerry,
Now you got me thinking about 8208 powder too!! I like the 225 I shoot currently but a 200 going that fast is interesting. What length barrel is on your 35 Whelen?
Don
Thanks for the replies.
Fotis, please keep me in the loop I'm giving it strong consideration to go that way for the up coming 2016 deer season.
Thanks,
Don
Can some of you guys share your load data on this as well as some real live experiences maybe on Whitetail Deer. Also please include the tube length 22" etc.
Thank-you
Don
Ray,
I'll throw my 2 cents in here. You asked if what you were showing was ignition inconsistency.
I would think if u actually had that you would see velocity differences as well as POI on the target providing you are running your loads through a chronograph.
Don
Bruce,
I grew up shooting our family Rem. 722 in the 222 version. We reloaded 50 grain Hornady spire points using IMR 4198 powder. Think we were getting 3200 fps or so from it as it sported a 26" barrel. Killed many ground hogs with that gun. It would print 3-shots easily inside a dime and in...
I agree with Dr Mike and Scotty,
I have always believed the powder of 20 years ago does not compare to the powder of today.
Higher pressures etc come into play.
Don
Our Tennessee Gun season for deer ends this weekend. Got to move some tree stands around then help a friend remove some of his. After that planning on developing a 165 load for the 30-06 with 165 bullets after no success with 180's. Also want to hit the range with the 300 RUM to shoot 500 yards...
Guy,
I got a Doe tonight 30-minutes before shooting time. Shot was 100 yards, she was on the move, just as she paused I sent the 165 BT from the 06. She hit the ground flopping around and was sliding down the hill, righted her self and trotted towards me, stopped behind a tree. Gave her another...
Scotty,
I know when I was messing with the 180 E-tip a few years ago I was getting 3200 fps. I would imagine with the 150 it would be maybe 3600 or so.
Don
You didn't mention what game animal you are hunting and I would assume Whitetails.
My 300 RUM load
Remington 700 BDL 26" barrel, ported
Remington Brass
Federal 215 primers
200 Accubond, seated the length of the magazine
91.5 Reloader 25 (Nosler book, max charge for this powder)
35-degree...
