    Hunting in June, July, Aug?

My wife said the only one I would not be able to do would be the Caribbean cruise hunt LOL My wife and I hope to get to New Zealand someday. I would love to hunt Red Stags, either in New Zealand or Argentina, but my wife wants to visit New Zealand. A, if you have not already left the...

    How to cook a Wolf?

Cheyenne, you can add me to the list of non wolf haters. Although you dont see them often, I also feel they are an important part of the Alaska culture. Depending on who you talk to, we supposedly have twice as many here as you do or approximately 10000. Hunters ( and I am one of them ) take...

    GS Custom Bullets

Fotis Aleena has been singing their praises ever since I have know her. She is a big supporter of their products and Woodleigh. When I mentioned the cost of their bullets, she said,"it is the cheapest part of the hunt--dont be penny wise and pound foolish when your on a hunt of a lifetime"

    416 s

Everybody who responded, thank you. We like the Rigby, but wanted to see if someone could give me any reason to go in a different direction. Like Scotty said, they will all do the job. I do like the Weatherby gun and have grown fond of the 340 for sure, but for the 416 we will probably get a...

    416 s

I have grown fond of a 416 Rigby I bought for our trip to Africa and we are considering another one. I would be interested in which 416 you prefer--Ruger, Weatherby, Dakota, Remington, Rigby, or Taylor and why. ( I have no interest in the Barrett or Whisper )

Again, the "only one rifle" issue?

Maybe --Bwana but if I had to guess, I think Scotty nailed it One gun for north america, hunting bears, hunting in Canada, Belize, the "B" word for A ---I like this thread. I woud use a 375 to hunt bears in Canada, but it would be more gun than I would need in Belize, unless I was there...

Again, the "only one rifle" issue?

I agree Dr. Mike, it is interesting to watch them, to be, where they are or had been. It definitely adds to the experience of being in the woods/mountains. They will get your attention however and I also have a tendency to not go anywhere without the 45/70--just in case Cheyenne. we traveled...

    CZ550 .416 Rigby

+1 I had never used one until I moved to alaska and a relative up here has a couple. I like them, but I like the Weathetby stocks also--especially if it attached to a 340 Cheyenne. I always enjoy your posts here and elsewhere and you are spot on. But I will bet somewhere in your home...

    450 Marlin vs 45-70

    Good fix LOL

    Recoil...the worst?

I shot an old 577 N.E. with a 750 gr bullet a few months ago and I have no idea how anyone hunts with one of those things. I also shot a 10 gauge shotgun that is owned by the same fellow and that wasnt fun either. But the most recoil from a firearm that we actually use is the 458 Lott

    450 Marlin vs 45-70

Tom thank god you didnt buy it, it would have been a mistake. Save your money and get a Wild West 457 Magnum, which will also let you use regular 45/70 ammo. It is a Marlin 1895, with conversions. This is one sweet gun. I love the 45/70 lever and recommend you get one someday, when it is...

    Dedicated lightweight rifle?

BK +1, that Model 10 would be nice. BK, would you want a single or double barrel, if funds were not an issue and I am not saying that they are for you, but they would be for me. Onesonek I think of the hard to get places as high in the mountains. In very thick timber I like the lever...

    Times are a-changin'

Kodiak, most important is I hope you are on the mend and are well real soon I have not read the entire thread so someone may have already mentioned this to you. The 6.5 Swede is a sweet caliber. My mother, daughter and wife all use it regularly. My daughter has grown very attached to it and...

    Times are a-changin'

Charlie, we get the Ross bullets from Woodleigh now. Having the Ross, makes the H & H build just a whim on our part, as we thought it would be fun to have the 275, 300 and 375 and we have the 300 and 375 now. No big deal, i just thought it might be something different Kodiak might want to consider

    Times are a-changin'

Scotty, Dr Mike, Charlie, anyone else Cheyenne got me interested in the 275 H & H , my uncle and I are in the process of building one. My uncle has a 280 Ross I really like also. So maybe Kodiak would consider something a little older, and a little different that can still do a good job in...

    30-06 bullet choice.

As mentioned on the "one gun" thread, we use the 30-06 a lot on a variety of game and have used both the partition and a-frame with equal success. However, we prefer the 180 gr. But for whitetails the 165 is more than enough.

Again, the "only one rifle" issue?

Like Guy, you have harvested more species than I but I agree with you and Guy 100%. I actually still use the 30-06 and would have no problem with that being my one North America gun. For the world, I would also be fine with the 375. But I do use and like other calibers and have a fondness for...
