    Bucking wind vrs BC

The lag time is what makes the difference. To determine the effect that wind can have on a bullet you must look at the additional amount time that the bullet is in flight because of drag. This means subtracting the amount of time from ToF that the bullet would require to travel the give distance...

    Bucking wind vrs BC

Here are calculations for wind drift for the chosen 8mm bullets. I used the published B.C. values from the respective manufacturers at a range of 500 yds. The B.C. Gene used for the NPT is not what Nosler lists. When I run the numbers through JBM ballistics calculator, I get 21.6" wind drift...

    Bucking wind vrs BC

The lighter bullet is not easier to move. At least not from the winds point of view. The reason being that the heavier bullet also as proportionately more surface area exposed to the wind. It really does come down to just flight time, which is purely a function of muzzle velocity and ballistic...

    Bucking wind vrs BC

Lag time is the only thing that affects amount of wind drift. That is the actual flight time to target minus what the flight time would be in a vacuum. Momentum has no effect on this value. BC does. The only reason a slower, heavier bullet can drift less is if it has a significantly higher B.C...

Opinions on Brightest low-medium power scope u

I bought a VX3 2.5-8 because it was small and light weight. It is bright enough, but it's not as bright as my Conquests, Minox, or Meopta. It is also not as clear as those scopes. It's a good match for my No. 1 35 Whelen, but optically it does not quite hang with the Euro "Assembled in the USA"...

I gave in to the peer pressure.

Congrats on joining the club. I don't know what it is about this forum and the Whelen, but I'm pretty sure Scotty has something to do with it. I didn't have much luck finding dies on the north side of the river. I ended up ordering them from Cabela's.

I hang my head in shame...

I think you need to take acceleration into account in determining this. Didn't you go from one M70 to five M70's in just over a year? Be careful, bankruptcy may be the only thing that can stop that sort of momentum.

Opinions on Brightest low-medium power scope u

23 oz. is pretty hefty. I very seriously doubt that the likes of a Conquest or ZA3/ZA5 wouldn't be bright enough and they certainly weigh quite a bit less. The Z3 offers the best of both worlds, but nearly doubles the price. I'm also not sure where you are finding the Z3 under the $700...

Opinions on Brightest low-medium power scope u

I've never looked at a Z3 outside of a store. I have an Artemis, although not that model. It is the brightest scope I own. It is brighter than my Conquests, ZA5, and VX3. I suspect that the Swaro may be a little brighter.

    .277 130 Accubond

Dan, Scotty is all over it. I am using RL-22. I worked up to 61 grains for my rifle. Sorry for the slow response. I've been dedicating my spare time to putting my four wheeled toy back together. Good luck wit the load development. The 130 AB's liked a lot of jump in my rifle. -Trevor Also...

    .30-06 Bullet Tests

Sorry, I should have mentioned that. All of the water jug tests that I have done to date have been at approx. 25 yds.

    .30-06 Bullet Tests

I think the 180 would have easily penetrated into the 5th jug. The lead core kept going after the bullet slipped out of the rear corner of the fourth jug. I couldn't find the core, but the jacket was found on the tarp. I will retest the 180 Interlock and 165 Accubond. I'm pretty sure we'll be...

    subsonic .308 winchester load

I don't, but I doubt you'll have any problems finding a sub sonic load with 170's and Trail Boss. I just started playing with Trail Boss in my 35 Whelen with 158 gr XTP's (I needed something to do while I waited for the 225 AB's to arrive). I found a pretty accurate load at 14.5 gr that is right...

    .30-06 Bullet Tests

Here's a video of some water jug hunting I did today: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KYOzEHyZak&feature=autoplay&list=ULKTbGHYisC2I&playnext=1 I was a little misaligned for the first two and the bullets came out the rear corner of their respective last jugs. The 165 Accubond performed as...

New lighting, set up and camera angle on cartridge

I like the lighting on the case, but not the shadow line around them. I think if you could keep the lighting on the case the same but get sharp edges on the cartridge, they would look excellent. I've never really given photographing cartridges too much thought. Thinking about it now, I need to...

Trying to thin the powder herd

My fast powder is Varget. Medium is IMR 4350. Slow is RL-22. I've got a few other powders around, but I buy those three in bulk and try my best to find a load with them first. If something doesn't come together with the 225 ABs in my Whelen with Varget, I'll be forced to listen to Scotty and...

    30-06 165 gr. Accubond at 25 yards

Very impressive. Now I really can't wait for my 165 Accubonds to get here. You're getting very good velocity with that load. I only get about 2800 fps with 165s. You've got to be happy with that performance.

    25-06 & 120 gr. Parititon 25 yards

Very nice, David. Thanks for sharing. I started setting the jugs up on some angle iron after shattering a 2x10. It has worked so far. At least I'm not turning pricey lumber into kindling. I use two concrete blocks to elevate the "plank" and fire from the prone position.

    Joined the Whelen club yesterday!

I found the same thing. I had to order brass and dies. The LGS had two boxes of 250 Hot Cores. I bought both a couple months ago and they have not yet been replaced. They have very little in terms of .358" bullets other than Hornady... no Noslers and no 225 Sierras, both of which I'd like to...
