Went to the gun show last Saturday and looked at many DA pistols and made a decision to seize the last Equinox P229 before it sold out. Man, those wood grips are real nice and tried it out with a box of 180 grain Winchesters full metal flat nose and shot targets off the sandbag at 30 feet and...
First we got there and filled the hole with some soured corn that I had processed 2 weeks earlier, ew, smells bad though and left the area in the evening to go to Circle K for some drinks and returned after dark. Shut the headlights off and drove the truck very slowly to park about 200 yards...
I use around 24-36 inches deep so they can stay all night and the following night. The hogs can make a molehill out of a mountainhill out of that hole. They sure can dig down to three feet to the last kernal of corn.
The next couple of nights, I downed this estimated 400 pound hog with a 140...
Flowers, You have good reasoning, I understand that and before I go any further on this issue of feet per second out of the .41 Mag; I will take the chrono; which I it checked for a faulty printer gear and they gave it a thorogh diagnostics check and made a few adjustments( I do not know what...
My bad, I have several handguns and you are right, it is a 657.
I had my chrono checked and I clocked the 41 loads at 1700 something and rechecked again , at that time , with a .45 and it was around 893 something for the 8 rounds I used. So I do not think that there is anything wrong with it for...
Anyone have any good recipes with .41 Magnum loads? I have some W231, Blue Dot, 2400 and H110 powders on hand and Hornady 210 grain HP bullets. I have the Smithy 629 with 6 inch barrel SS I bought about 12 years ago and shot with full power loads with 20 grns. H110 and Hornady 210 grainers at...
What would be the ideal velocity for paper shooting or plinking for the .45 and .38 Super?
Is fast burning powders best for this application like the W231?
Depends on gun Mark. My kimber eats everything!
POP, Nothing wrong with the gun, did you read the near accident I had with the gun at the tournament? I took out the lodged bullet and cycled all the flat nose rounds and it feeds fine.
Scary and Stupid!
I took the gun apart to check if the spring was out of place or anything that looked wrong causing the jam. I removed the spring and barrel, looked through the barrel,,,er,, I could see a bullet sitting in the rifling forward of the chamber. I used the Dillon, while removing...
I went to the pistol tourney a while ago, it consists of law enforcement and civilians mixed together shooting at three different human sillouette targets at the fastest time. I used my .38 Super and when it was ready for me to take the 1st shot in the beginning round and it just misfired and...
Is there a ban or pre-ban on carrying high capacity mags like the Para Ordnance?
There are 14 rounds in .45 and 16 rounds in .40
I decided to wait it out before buying the Sig 220 and go to the gun show in two weeks and check out the Para Ordnance double action in .45 or .40
What do you guys...
I wanted to see how they penetrated each other. Well after the first shot, the box split open and all my papers fell out.
I stack all the newspapers about 3 feet high and tied lengthwise and crosswise with lumber string from Home Depot and let it sit in bathtub or 55 gallon drum. Make...
I am a huge fan of Nosler Ballistic Tips for my 7mm rifles. I have downed many deer and hogs with my Sako 7mm Mag with 28 inch Shilen barrel with muzzle brake. Nosler Ball. Tips in the 140 and 150 grn weight and performed flawlessly and have almost the same point of impact. Velocity at the...
I loaded the .45 Sierra Match 185 grain bullet to OAL length of 1.165" and manuals say to seat to OAL of 1.190 to 2.220.
I seated just short of tapered area of bullet. Bullet looks short. Any advice?
I loaded 100 rounds of .45's using 6.2-6.3 grns. of W231 with Sierra's and Nosler's 185 grain match bullets and they shoot just fine.
My Sierra and Nosler manuals shows that the hottest load is 6.3-6.4 grains while the Speer manual says 7.4 for .45 caliber 185 grain bullets.
I have not...
After cleaning the Kimber barrels with Butch Bore Shine several times, I see traces of copper on the riflings. Is this normal?
Should it be removed with stronger copper remover solvent? Will the strong stuff harm barrels?
Mark
POP, You're right, I never do that for hunting rifles or rifle competition, just thought that it may not hurt much with pistols at 15 or so yards.
